I've just fitted an On-One 30t TT ring and it seems to be causing me a few issues. The chain's struggling to drop off the teeth as it leaves the ring and isn't happy sitting on the teeth on the top run ... think chainsuck and drop cunningly combined. Drivetrain is all new but I'm using a SRAM chain ... is this causing the trouble? Does the thing need to bed-in? Is it just a bad idea and I should re-fit my standard ring and Pauls chain keeper?

I use always use SRAM chains, and have 30t TT Hope ring on my full susser and 32t raceface TT ring on my 29er, both without issue, at all. They get a bit noisy when they're full of crunch sandy gunk, that's all.

It does seem / feel like the thick teeth are a little too thick.

I don't have one but have been researching. Seemingly they do take a few miles to bed in

dosnt sound the best. is this a 'bike stand observation' ?

what mech is it? (wondering if its a clutch it may hep with release)

It did Dave. I did think maybe it'll bed in but the fact I couldn't actually ride the thing made that a non-starter. However, the problem is now sorted with the fiendishly simple addition of a 30t On-One thick / thin ring to the bin

Shame the ring was not up to the job. As I said, if you feel the need for a thick thin, my RF ones have been flawless, if not the longest lasting.

With good alignment and chain length (and a long cage mech) I had fairly good success with a standard ring and mech for 1x10 with no tensioners. This was winter conditions and mega clag, I got a cluch mech for xmas, works perfectly, then and felt the need to try a RF narrow wide 30t sometime later.

It was the 30t rather than the profile that interested me ... I've just fitted my trusty 32t and Pauls chain keeper.

RaceFace do a 30T one, with a bit of machining to offset it from the spider so as not to get any fouling IIRC

Loads of people do 30t N/W rings now, Raceface, Hope, Middleburn, Wolftooth etc etc

I knew that there were quite a few options out there for 30t TT rings but nothing quite as cheap (that'll teach me) as the On-One ring. Upon further investigation it would seem that the thick teeth are indeed too thick for a 10 speed chain (tried Shimano and Sram) but a 9spd chain works fine ... I'm sure I could cobble a 9spd chain on but have decided to fit a 33t stainless ring instead

Ah. I don't know if the RaceFace N/W will run 10sp. It runs 8 speed fine.

Raceface and Hope both run 10sp fine for me.

All the TT things are meant to run 8, 9 and 10 speed ... or not

That sort of depends on your point of view ... the TT rings are meant to stop your chain falling off and mine certainly did that. The problems only arose if you actually wanted to pedal the thing, then the chain was held so securely that it wouldn't release from the teeth

do they start off fitting 8 speed, 4 months later they fit 9 speed, then another 4 months and then finally they fit 10 speed ;-)

Was it much? It's a fine line between wasting time returning stuff but sometimes, generally when I think someone should be ashamed for selling something that so utterly fails to work in anyway that a reasonable person might expect, then I'm driven to send it back.

I think it was one of the very first batch so was £20 ... I'll find something 9 speed (or possibly 3 speed) to stick it one

I've got an old Kaffenback frame and the mounts for the cables on the downtube interfere with the canti-brake cable when turning.

Not a small design error!

I called them and was told "yeah, that batch had that problem but the new ones are ok" which made me happy that everyone else wouldn't have to suffer my fate but it didn't exactly solve my troubles.

"Not fit for purpose" is what I'd call that. I refuse to buy anything expensive from on one now after having problems with an expensive rear easton wheel which they said had nothing wrong but the freewheel would slip regularly for no apparent reason.

There's a lad in the club i'm in with a ti 456 & 'One One' is upsidedown on the down tube..
I had to look at it a couple of times to make sure i was seeing it right..

Only a cosmetic thing, bit it does make you wonder what else goes on if they can't even get their own name the right way up..
