creating/tracing/merging gpx files

I'm sure this has been covered before but I can't find it...
What do people use for creating gpx's from several existing gpx files (plus a bit of gap filling)?
What i'd like to be able to do is load in a bunch of gpx files, then trace over the selected bits, join up some of the gaps and then save the result as a new gpx.
bikehike only loads one existing gpx at a time, and so far I've tried Google Earth, GPX Track Editor, qGIS and Route Buddy...however none seem to do what I want...or am I missing something obvious?

Osgetamap lets you load multiple tracks. You could then just trace over the top with a fresh track perhaps?

I would then still export the resulting track through bikehike to trim out the waypoints.

OSgetamap is total crap. I subscribed, it doesn't work, now i'm fighting for a refund.
I've tried routebuddy again recently. It has some good points, but again, mostly it's rubbish. It joins tracks in date order, so in my case, using some new ones by me and parts of EWE, it just went mental and created a hideous mess. It should join them in selection order, but I guess that's too clever.
My current thinking is to create all the parts in either routebuddy or ridewithgps or bikehike, then export as GPXs labelled 01, 02 etc, then join in a text editor. Joy.

You can join GPX files in bikehike using the merge feature. I think it's options>merge>then you load a gpx in the normal way but it stitches the start of the new one to the end of the old. I use it all the time in-conjunction with the cut to end feature to do the sort of stuff that is being talked about.

Gabes, what is/isn't osgetamap doing for you? I'll concede it's pretty clunky and silverlight is abominable.

Route buddy does have a few funny quirks and I do curse it a fair bit, but on the whole I can do what I need to do.
As far as joining tracks goes; seeing as there is no "create track" function, I create a route that traces several existing tracks (that is, ones imported from actual rides) and once I have a whole route, I convert it to a track and upload to a GPS. I used this method successfully last night while creating a 500km route.

If you want to go full on geek then gpsbabel is the Swiss Army knife of GPX manipulation

Cheers Ian, I'll try that method.
Dave, I spend half my life in the 'nix CLI, so that looks great!

I just got a refund from OS for my subscription.
They also said they're developing a new version that won't use Silverlight, sounds promising
Also we are working on the new version of getamap which is expected later this year/ early next. This will not require Silverlight and will also work on tablets and phones so this may help.
