Music in the hills.

I think this may have been covered before but never mind.
I have never taken music to listen to before when bike packing but with a planned 300 miles over 3 days I think some music may help beat the negative thoughts I am bound to suffer. What devices do people use to listen to music on? I have a phone with radio but the phone also has the route on viewranger on it so I don't really want to use that in case of the battery running out although I could get a spare battery cheap enough. I am thinking of a small personal radio which can be picked up fairly cheaply but was wondering about reception in the hills. I don't want to spend a lot of money so I pods etc and paying for music to download are not an option. I had also considered a cheap personal CD player but that would be heavier/bulkier than a radio plus youh have to carry CD's. Any recommendations or options I'm overlooking?
