'Lucky' kit?

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

Do you have a piece of kit that you always take out (non emergency) with you, almost like a lucky charm ... bit like putting your 'trapping knickers' on for a night out*.

Mine is my blue Snow Peak Ti mug that Flatfishy gave me a few years ago ... goes on every trip.

*Trapping Knickers - you're best / lucky underwear that always leads to something exciting happening with members of your preferred sex.

That's mine too. My snow peak Ti 450 mug. Been on nearly every trip I've done since I've had it. Irrespective of the type (bushcrafting, car camping, wild camping, bikepacking, day walks)

Been used on wood, gas, meths, esbit and BBQs

I used to have a Swiss army knife that my brother carried on his round the world backpacking trip. He then gave it to me and it went all round Europe and all over the UK by bike. Then I got burgled and the thieving scumbag stole it, it has been replaced by a cheaper, lighter model that goes on every trip. The replacement is the "Waiter" model which I think has all you need, one sharp blade, corkscrew, tin opener and bottle opener. I like it.

I've always got my Swiss army knife too. It's an anniversary model that I picked up in Germany a few years ago.

Geez, I'm still laughing.

But to answer the question, I carry a stone.

Ive got a small lock-blade knife that Ive had for nearly 30 years that comes on every trip. There's lots of stuff that always comes along - Petzl headtorch, Alpkit ti mug, a battered 200ml alu bottle for meths - but that knife is a bit of a talisman. I rarely use it but wouldn't be without it.
I'm just going outside ...

14 year old karrimor goretex paclite jacket.
Always take it on rides.
Bit thin in places.
Still waterproof.
Grubby little urchin.
