We are 1 mat short for next weekend so passing a Sports Direct I popped in and picked up a "cheap" Karrimor X-Lite Inflate mattress.

£30 seemed alright, in fact in hindsight if it lasts then it's a bargain.

Got it home and unpacked it and I impressed by the size of, compared to my NeoAir it's a good bit smaller and lighter. (350g)

Inflated it and it's bigger than my NeoAir and thicker, also maybe more comfy as the tubes run vertical.

I think it's massive weak spot is insulation but for summer not sure this matters.

Anyway in short, for £30 I'm happy.

About same Thickness, X-lite is a touch longer, NeoAir is a touch wider.

I picked up one of these just before the WRT and used it that weekend.

It's very small and light and packs away to nothing. There is no insulation at all but I sleep warm so not an issue for me, I also have an insulated self inflating mat that I'll use when its cold, so this is a perfect cheap, 3 season and racing mat for me. Great value for money.

The only word of warning is that you will have to be careful with it as it's made of cling film. I put a one inch tear in mine just checking that it inflated when I was in the house. It brushed against the end of one of the metal bars on our clothes horse.

On my third inflate / deflate & pack cycle with it now and it's harder work & slower than the NeoAir

That's right ... same mat, just cheaper.

I had one of those in the MultiMat guise. Tiny pack size and very light but being a cold sleeper it was replaced with a NeoAir xtherm. Heavier, bulkier but infidently toastier!

For summer use though, the Karrimor/MultiMat mats are fantastic value.

I've just got the multimat version for my daughter.

The multimat blurb says 3 season whatever that means.

Taking her on her first back packing short rde this weekend and as I'll be the one lugging all the gear I wanted something small and light without breaking the bank. At £18 it was a no brainer. Got it from Macsalvors in Pool.

1) If they're made of cling film, presumably they need something underneath them if you're not in a tent? What would the panel recommend?
2) If they do tear, are they repairable in the field / when you get back home?

I thought the fabric looked fairly robust but I have taken note of your incident Composite.

I'd always check what I was laying it on first just to make sure but then I'd do that with my exped mat too. Nothing worse than a flat airbed :(
