Hyalite Peak Elite AC failed again this past week so I was once again sleeping on the ground for 4 nights with the added bonus of the mat breathalyser test at my nightly wee intervals.
What are all the cool kids using these days? Light and packable (sub 1L).

Oh I'm using a Synmat UL7. Pack size is decent at 24 x 10 and I can fit mine in my small revelate tangle bag. The matt inflates to 7cm so not only does it provide great insulation (used mine in anger on the col du midi on mont blanc) it is bloody comfy!

Exped Synmat UL7 here too. Best. Mat. Ever.

Synmat UL 7 in small for me ... before anyone says it's heavy compared to a Neoair we should consider the size of both companies offerings.

I'm quite liking my Klymit x-lite mat. It's full of holes and it only works best when you sleep on your back, but I still like it.

Are you hinting at the fact that the neoair medium is almost the same size as the small synmat?

I used a Neoair pump sack with it as well

I had one of those from when they were still pacific outdoor and I got fed up of repairing it as well. Replaced it with http://hyaliteequipment.com/sleeping-pa ... l-lite-pol which has been great.

Neoair Xtherm here. It's a little more robust in build compared to tbe standard Neoair and a little less crinkly/noisy. 410g and a decent back size.

Best of all it has an R-Value of 5,7 which is perfect for coldies like me.

That said, a few people had the synmat UL at the WRT and they looked good.

Yeah, pretty much. A small Exped is very nearly full length for me but a small Neoair comes to my knees.

Not the lightest or smallest packing but I don't regret buying my exped downmat lite, very comfy and warm.

For me I picked the Neoair Women's xlite
It got a extra layer to boost the R rating up a bit
At over 6cm thick, super comfy and not too short in length (167cm)
It's 340gms and I've not woken up yet with the crinkly noise
I'm pleased with mine, hunting around on t'interweb got the price down a bit

I'm using an exped downmat 5 lite, and its great, soooooo warm and packs down tiny
For summer though I just take a piece of CCF cut to torso size

These guys seem quite cheap for the Exped

Ive used the exped synmat ul 7, multimat adventure superlite air and the multimat adventure 38 self inflating mat.

Adventure air - weighs next to nothing - 300 gms? Packs really small too probably around 500ml. I found it reasonably comfy if a little narrow, it doesn't have any internal insulation so one for the warmer months. The welds between the tubes go all the way through so it's not as stable as the exped air beds.

Adventure 38 - reasonably light but not nearly as packable as the air mats. I seemed to roll off it quite easy and didn't find it that comfy as a side sleeper. The valve went after about 9 months but multimat were great to deal with regarding warranty ( at the time, they provided a 2 year warranty)

Exped synmat ul 7 - fantstic, hands down the best night sleep ive had camping, almost as good as a real bed. The way the tubes are welded gives the mat a lot of structural rigidity and the outer most tubes are bigger which makes it more difficult to roll off. Weight, pack size and warmth are all good as others have mentioned.

Thanks to all for the useful comments. I was really torn between the Synmat S and Neoair Regular but after laying down on the floor and getting the missus to measure me (!), I think the Neoair R is the safer bet size wise and just saves a little bit on weight.
Got one on order with a price match from Go Outdoors for £85

They are the same as the ferrino mat ive been using for the last couple of years - not had a cold nights sleep. One day I may treat myself to an exped one, but im not in a rush :)
