Details for Le Tour d’ Yorkshire bivi trip over the weekend of the 4-6 July.

I’ve pulled a route together which will include a good mix of all the different kinds of riding we have here in the Shire and a few good pubs as well. The Full weekend would be ~120k of riding and similar climbing levels as Wales. As usual, everyones welcome and hopefully enough options below to fit in with peoples other commitments.

Full Tour (Friday + Weekend)
Friday
Meet at my house in South Halifax (HX3 0TP) at noon for a 1pm start
~40k ride up through Halifax to the pub in Baildon
A Pint or two while we wait for others to arrive
~5k ride up ont’ Moor to bivi down for the night

Saturday
Drop down into Ilkley for breakfast and find a spot to watch from
Peloton ~ 12:24
~40k ride over to the pub in Oxenhope
Few beers and then a ~5k ride to Bivi

Sunday
Drop down into Hebden Bridge for Breakfast
~20k up and o’er tops, t’ Crag Vale
Peloton ~ 13:36
~10k ride back to mine for tea and cake


Petite Tour (Friday Evening + Weekend)
Arrive at my house whenever you want
~5k ride to the station in Halifax
Catch the train to Saltaire (Theres one every 15mins, £3.30 and involves a 5 min ride across Bradford between stations)
~5k ride up to the pub on the north side of Baildon (we’ll aim to be there from 7)
Join the rest of us


Weekend Only
Park at mine
Catch the train from Halifax to Ilkley (It’ll be busy, so get an early start)
Join the rest of us


Just the Sunday
Park at mine
Leisurely ride along the canal to Mytholmroyd (10k)
Ride up Crag Vale (its not steep its just a constant positive gradient)
Join the rest of us

If none of that works for you i’m sure i can work something else out.

hmmm... I am travelling down from Edinburgh to visit my folks at the same time in Chesterfield - I was expecting to watch the tour a bit further South (ie nearer Chesterfield). Anyhoo, I'm up for this BB meet-up and I'm free the whole long weekend (La Full Tour) and so this could be doable, but I don't have a motor and so I guess I'd get the train to Wakey in then cycle over your way

edit: I do appreciate that you have a notion of a route as I hadn't yet given this any thought

It may be easier to get the train to Leeds and then either ride/train over to mine/meet us Ilkley.
I may even be able to pick you up from the station depending on timings

Hi all, just a quick one to say I'm in... and also a bit of an 'ello, as this is my first post. I'm a friend of Chew's* and long-term admirer of his bivvy trips, and this looks like the perfect opportunity to join in. I'll try not to hold you up too much or ask too many stupid questions like "does the bivvy go inside or outside your sleeping bag?".

If I can get the Friday off work - I'll be joining from Halifax, if I can't - I'll be riding from Leeds city centre up to Baildon on Friday after work (@16:30ish - along route 66/Aire Valley Tow path) and meeting Chew and company up there (anyone else is welcome to join, e.g. if you are getting the train into Leeds).

Knee seems OK, have a sensible bike built (rigid will be OK won't it!?). My lil bro wants to come too. So that's a yes from us if that's OK

Trains are a bit pricy! £61 single Brum to Halifax

Cheapest way so far is to get separate tickets Birmingham - Derby - Sheffield - Halifax £37ish!

I'll be spending most of my working day tomoz crunching the numbers.

Don't forget to calculate the extra time you spent crunching those numbers and factor that in

Also, check that the service allows bikes on the days you are travelling. Bikes arent allowed at all on some during the tour

Looks like Mart will be giving me a lift now from Burton. I doubt any further restrictions will be in place that far south. Worse case I can ride from Burton to Birmingham.

Neil - are you video-ing for this trip? If so, do you want a second camera-man? I've not really got the time or inclination at the moment to go about video-editing properly, but I've got a GoPro and a few mounts and would be more than happy to get some raw footage on the trip - then let you have a copy so you can make a vid

Bring your camera for sure mate, I would be happy to have as much footage as possible.

As there is going to be a decent sized group I'm toying with the idea of bringing a couple of GoPros and handing them out to who ever was up for pointing them at stuff.

I've got a Hero 2, and 4 batteries, various mounts (handlebar is my fave at the mo) - also happy to film and contribute my footage. Let me know what resolution and frame rate you'd like stuff filmed in to make your life easier.

TBH mate whatever is fine as I'll be transcoding anything I use to a full frame format anyway. I'll be editing in 1920x1080.

EDIT: With frame rate though go with 30fps, unless you are thinking that some thing specific would be good in slow mo.

Righto, back from my holidays and hopefully everyone has all of the details etc. Let me know if anyones missing anything.

Bikes arn't being allowed on the trains over the weekend, so hopefully people have other arrangements for getting here and back.

Parking is a bit limited directly outside my house, but theres plenty along the road outside the primary school/caravan sales place on the other side of the traffic lights.

Nice one Chew, looking forward to it. Last minute fettle (/first proper test ride) for the bike tomorrow, so should be all set

GoPro (Hereo 3+) people, I'll need some extra batteries. Does anyone recommend any good copies which don't discharge in 1/4 of the time of the factory ones? I would get some wasabi power ones, but that might take a while and doesn't actually work out as cheap as it would if I lived in the States... Ta

Never used a Go-Pro but happy to push a few buttons if there is a spare lying around for a view from the back.

I may join you lot up at Cragg Vale on Sunday.

Im contemplating cycling up the Rochdale canal, camping over somewhere near Littleborough or a little further on, before heading to to Cragg Vale on the Sunday! Before cycling it all back on the Sunday afternoon.

We will see, i might just be lazy yet and stay around the Littleborough area, depending on how my legs and lungs are holding up!

Friday / Friday Night / Saturday Morning looks like they could be wet. Best bring a tarp I guess
