MYOG frame bag

I’ve decided to have a crack at making a framebag with the help of Mrs Barney

Firstly I made a cardboard template and then built up a “3-D model” to check the size didn’t interfere with rotating cranks etc.

Wish I’d paid more attention to Blue Peter when I was younger…

I forgot to take any photos during “manufacturing” but I’m quite happy with the results, I decided to go for the full gate opening

Image

I put some loops at the top so I can easily store my poles expertly engineered by Stu…

Image

I decided on a small external map pocket on the non-zip side just big enough for an OS map (the map will fit in completely to shield it from from the weather)

First trial on Tuesday on a 2 day trip round Llyn Brenig & Alwen reservoir…

It’s nowhere near the same quality as one of Beth’s (I don’t think the straps will last long-term) but it’ll do for a couple of months until I can justify to Mrs B that I need a “proper” one.

Oh yes, total cost… £2 for the material from the market, £3 for the webbing & velcro and £2 for the zip off ebay plus numerous cups of coffee for the machinist/instructor/boss :-bd

Some very nice ideas there. Like the pole holder and map pocket. Impressive stuff.

Looks good. Was wondering what happened to Jimmy Saville's tracksuit but I see you used it to line the inside of your bag... :-bd

I have a weird curvy frame, with very little space, so I'm thinking of making a frame bag that might hold a few wee bits and pieces. Have to say, this comment gave me a lol moment.

I was questioning the star trek theme!
Anyway, if I could get some help to source decent material and one of those waterproof zips I'd be very grateful. I'll keep a photo log of my progress too.
Thanks.

Pennine Outdoor are good http://www.pennineoutdoor.co.uk/fabrics

I think I used this stuff http://www.pennineoutdoor.co.uk/fabrics ... ated-nylon to make my framebags, handlebar harness and seatpack

They also sell waterproof zips, yarn, Velcro, etc
