Just out of nosey interest, I thought I'd see what people are using to sleep in now the nights are getting warmer.

My poll is in, though it might change if I go for a quilt as my interest is piqued

I voted sub kilo synthetic bag, but my preferred option (bit its too heavy) is my buffalo bag, so I might change my choice

first trip of the year tomorrow with the 3-season bag (Lamina 45)

hopefully won't be too cold in it !

I only have 1 sleeping bag, so it kind of makes my choice for me. Summer or winter, my Rab top bag seems warm enough, if it's cold I just layer up.

I'll have to get it out of the garage and weight it, but it's a cheap and nasty Tesco effort!

As above for me but a Vango Venom 300.

I'm in two minds about bags. I'd be hoping to use my Cumulus down bag as it's 700g, but my Lamina 35 is fine for prolonged use in the damp - all depends on the weather coming up.

Alpkit Pipedream 400 - its been very versatile so far

I was wondering about a lightweight synthetic bag for more damp conditions - has anyone got any recommendations for spring to Autumn use

Another long term satisfied Pipedream 400 user, I've slept out in -4 in it and survived (albeit with a Whitby Handwarmer for company).

I have a Lamina 35 which is about 300gms heavier, got it for damp conditions, but have always managed to keep the pipedream dry so I generally take the lamina only when doing family camping trips/festivals etc because it can be washed easily. Only paid £45 for it in a Cotswold sale, wish I'd got two more (for the kids).

Basically and I tend to agree that switching to synthetic "in case" it gets wet is a bit of a misnomer, I've slept in some proper downpours and kept my down bag dry you just have to be careful and if it got wet a synthetic bag would also get wet. I've never slept in a wet synthetic bag but I'm pretty sure that a wet sleeping bag down or manmade will be pretty horrid and neither would be warm.

I think the down/synthetic argument depends alot on trip length/temperatures/ability for a bit of an airing.

As has already been mentioned, a wet bag is miserable down or synthetic, but if you work hard to keep it dry you can make either system work.

But if your out for extended periods, a synthetic bag with not suffer as much as down in really prolonged cold and damp.

Whichever you have, I reckon getting it wet is going to be bad...

Having g got into my buffalo bag completely soaked to the skin, I can safely say that it wasn't actually that bad, obviously it would have been better had I been dry, but it kept me warm and snug so I can't complain really :)

Concur - I bought the second batch ever made (i.e. when it used pertex) and been very pleased. Used it in a massive range of temperatures. I;ve only recently purchased PHD minim ultra for more summer use. But the pipedream 400 has been a trusty companion for many years now

Vango venom 400 used all year round for me as it's the only bag I have. Bit warm for summer at times but then I just lie under it.

Another Lamina 45 here, hope it's good enough for Cape Wrath next month...

Cumulus Lady 500 Sleeping bag. It's very very warm, but it's the only one I've got and I like being warm.
