apologies for double post, I put this on another thread but most people won't have seen it...

I normally only go on "in-land" bivi's but this week I'm going with John on his beach bivi. I've just got used to taking minimum water and a filter but obviously this won't work with sea water. Is it just a question of taking all your water with you?

Depending on conditions I'll normally choose between bivi bag, tarp or tent. Do you approach beach bivi's any differently?

I assume a tent peg won't go into sand? Any quick tips?

Anything else much different from an "in-land" over nighter?

Water - yep, need to make sure you have enough.

Sand - can be very comfy to bivvy on (just wiggle around until it's the right shape) but less good for tent pegs. On the last couple of occasions I've lain my bike down upwind and put those pegs through the spokes.

If there's a decent dune system then you should be able to find somewhere reasonably sheltered but if it's a busy beach then look out for toilet paper (and what accompanies it).

Lighthouses are nice to look at but that light shining in your tent can get old very quick!

I bivvied on the beach a couple of weeks ago and as it was good weather I decided to
sleep with my hooped bivvi bag open, after a couple of minutes I realised small insects off of the beach where jumping about in my bivvi bag and I had to zip up to get a good nights sleep and save my sanity
If I had only had a normal bivvi bag it would have been a problem.

Pegs - I think you can tie the guyrope round a stick/rock and bury it? You can get special pegs though, plastic bulky ones are pretty cheap...

Bivi on a beach...
Why would you do that?

Sand everywhere. I hate sand...
