Hi all I'm looking for some budget 29er wheels. I only have around £130ish to spend but I've got it down to a couple of choices. I'm presuming these will be an upgrade to the standard wheels that came on my voodoo bizango..
I'm heavy at 100kg and want to use these for bikepacking, general trail riding and some tamer trail centers.

Needs to be normal quick release as my new rigid forks are quick release only..

Thoughts people as I don't know if this is worth doing or just continue with original wheels and get a 15mm to qr converter to fit in the new forks??

Bought some of these recently.
They are pretty good for the money.
The rim tapes are crap though.....

I know there's not much love for Superstar but I've 2 sets of their 29" wheels and they've been fine. One pair did need a little tighten after 100 miles but that's all.

I've also got some Mavic Cross One wheels, nice and light, cartridge bearings and within budget.

Spotty dog and cheap as chips IMHO.

I've had two sets of wheels from Superstar and they've both been excellent.

I like Shimano front hubs but not the rears because they need regular greasing and, more importantly, the free hubs aren't serviceable and tend to die quite quickly IME.

I got 2 sets of 26" superstar wheels. One set was great never needing touching. On the other set one I built myself and that has been flawless but the other factory one has been slightly questionable and I have snapped quite a few spokes on it.

Only reason I wouldn't buy them again is that I have now had a taste of really nice wheels and I never want to go back to cheaper ones.

Superstar switch hubs are they really noisy??? I.e clicky as I used to ride with a lad with an on one fatty and it used to drive me crazy.

Apparently heavier weight grease deals with the clicking.

Mine aren't either. In fact when I re-greased the free hub they became almost silent for a good while.

I concur. Also as mentioned above the OOFatty has ludicrously loud clattery hubs!

My Superstar Switch hub was rather quiet. Didn't last long though.
I cannot recommend Superstar hoops. Much, much better experience with Hope hoops and Stans rims. Can't beat Flow EX for intense trail use. For lighter riding Arch EX. I think I suffer from less punctures because of the shape of the rim.

This isn't a like for like comparison in terms of cost. Hope wheels can't really be considered a budget wheel set IMO.

Superstar Switch, CX-Ray, alloy nipples, Pacenti rim vs. Hope Hoops with a Stans rim. Infact my custom Superstar wheel was more expensive (about 100 g lighter and incomparably weaker).

Oops, 130 quid... jupp those Hope hoops are more like 215 quid rear only.
