Er, now I think i remember a couple of you on here getting new XTR brakes.
I'm wanting an extra set of brakes so may plump for the nice ones, being that I seem to having a minor xtr fetish in the last few months
Which ones did you get and how are they?

Not fitted them yet, but I have the trails (2013) and they seem really really nice! (You have XTs, they're like that but everything is up a couple of notches in quality and refinement, you can see why they're double the price)

IMHO. I've owned several sets of avids, most years of shimano brakes, a set of hopes for a bit, some hayes and even a gorgeous set of formula R1s, still think shimano are the best


Oooh yeah, talking of shimano brakes. I have a set of 2012 SLXs which I use day in day out commuting. I lost all modulation of the rear brake for some reason, it was really grabby and the lever stroke felt weird. Turned out it was a sticky piston (sorted it easily enough), but coz of the servo wave, it didn't have make braking a bit poor show.

I went for XTR. They are lovely now they're bedded in. Rode down the Gap as full tilt at I could manage in the Puffin, one finger braking perfectly adequate. Lots of modulation, and if the lever is pulled far enough, stop-on-a-sixpence type power that brings even the 35lb Puffin to a halt no problem at all.

Have no idea whether they are substantially better than XT/SLX/Deore, but they're shining silver, say XTR on them and give me a warm feeling inside.

Ian, did you go for the trail ones with the adjuster like zippys xtr and my current xt, or the lighter race ones with no adjuster?

I have a set of xt on each bike. They've been faultless.

XTR trail brakes here. Absolutely vaguely exciting brakes, as Ian says loads of modulation and only one finger braking needed. There Leagues ahead of the 2010 XTR brakes which I also run. I Initially had them on Fargo and 160mm rotors both ends. They have now gone onto Krampus were I have had to fit a 180mm front to prevent calliper rubbing spokes and I find that a bit overkill. I have small hands so appreciate the reach adjustment of the trails.
