For my sins, i have started running in an effort to shift the excess pounds

there are plenty of them! I find it terribly boring running on the spot, so wondered if anyone had any recommendations for podcasts to listen to or just anything in general!

Ibiza Euphoria disc 1. I always associate that album with pain and suffering.
My legs physically cry when I press play.

TED talks, just pick ones that sound like you might like then convert it using an online converter :)

My running mix has a bit of everything, some heavy, some silly, some utterly laughable.
This one's a good starter for 10 :)

If you like drum and bass then I got like a million drum and bass mixes from over the years, I listen to a lot of it in the gym myself. just give me a shout and I can "make some available" to you.

I have downloaded bits and pieces from radio 4 library.
In our time (mainly just the science ones)
Also, quite enjoyed Short Cuts. There's a few of those.
Some audiobooks might be worth a go. Really enjoyed Iain M Banks the Player of Games.
Although you may not like fiction let alone science fiction.
I have a dull job I listen to lots and lots of different things.
The ted talks idea was a good one. Inexhaustable supply there....

I haven't been running for a few years. But I used to listen to the soundtrack from Slumdog Millionaire when I last ran some decent miles.

Depends if you're into deep house-progressive stuff, if so Ad Brown, Zac Roth and Jacob Henry on Silk Royal Showcase podcasts are my go-to mixes for long rides. Steady, brisk, hypnotic stuff with some absolute gems in there, none of the cheesy siren-wailing guff that Ministry etc put out. Guest mixes can be really good, plenty of up-tempo stuff for turbo sessions or running. Had Zac Roth 146 on the other day, amazing sounds. (edit, that's 141. On again and it's so good)

Podcasts are perhaps not the best thing to listen to if you're running, but two podcasts I enjoy are Kirsty Young's Desert Island Discs (a mix of interview and music), and The Indie Travel Podcast (Inspiration for where to travel, interesting stories). Both have a good catalogue of previous episodes too.
Also, in a similar vein to TED Talks, the BBC has some really good archived Reith Lectures that are quite thought-provoking.
But I'd mostly recommend running without music, get outside, and learn to love running! It's amazing!!!

The Archers omnibus from BBC radio 4 is my favorite.
On a cycling theme anything from Velocast is good or The bike show.
cycle systems academy's podcast had a great interview with Gary Fisher last week.

I used to rely on music to get me out running, but recently I've been out without to get used to it. Thought it'd do my head initially, but I actually seem to prefer it. I do still enjoy the occasional boost from a suitable song, mind. Rock N Roll All Nite by Kiss, for example, is a prime running song

Koan Sound for some drum n bass/dubstep mix. The Cat Empire for brilliant fun music!! If you can, run outside though, it's less boring, you dont have to avoid looking at yourself in the mirror

and I personally find it allows me to think. But then again I gave up running a year ago after I realised I'd rather be riding, which works even better for toning (think about all that upper body work off-road and sprinting ey!

)

Sorry to resurrect this slightly elderly thread, but I constantly listen to podcast so wanted to inflict a few dozen recommendations.
The Complete Guide to Everything
Two guys from new York pick a subject and riff on it. It's funny. You won't learn very much.
The Filmdrunk Frotcast
Four dudes bullshit about films, sports, pop culture, internet nonsense out of San Francisco. It has the word 'film' in the title, but that's only a relatively small part of the discussion. It's can get pretty crass, but in a good way.
This American Life
Excellent long-form journalism about a range of themes - from light to serious. There are some excellent stories in there. "The Convert" and "Slow to React" are particularly good. The 'Slow to React' episode is not for children.
Stuff You Should Know
Like an audio version of an encyclopedia article. It's a bizarro world version of the complete guide to everything, where they actually discuss the topic at hand.
Dan Carlin's Hardcore History
Long form podcasts about history, using a narrative style. I particularly like the Wraith of the Khans" series about the mongolian empire.
