Video from There 'n' Back: The Road to Pont Scethin

Here's a little film I made while out on the There 'n' Back earlier this month. It doesn't feature any Spar shops (though I did visit two), but the weekend was much more about getting myself to place I've never visited before for a bivvy: Pont Scethin.

I tried to add a little something more to the usual shots of a guy riding a bike, so let me know what you think :)

Very nice ... liking the underwater footage*

*Obviously Matt would have bunnyhopped the river.

Beaten to the bunny hop quote. :D

I'd have put on a better Welsh accent though. ;)

Enjoyed that.

Thanks. I edited out the bit where I bunnyhop the gate at the top of the A470 pass, but did leave the bit in where I ride out of a full two wheel slide down into Brithdir

Thanks, but I don't have a Welsh accent :?

Cheers Mike. Funny you should mention the HT560, because it had crossed my mind :o
In order to maintain a quick pace and provide an suitably varied range of angles, I reckon I would need 3 cameras (and a lot of batteries) - one on bike, one on tripod & one on body.

It would also seriously mess up your finishing times too! All that stopping and camera setup must take time

If I had three cameras, I reckon I could do it quite quickly, but it would have some impact on my finish time, yes.

I may yet just take my camera and see if I can grab bits here and there, but it'd be mostly POV stuff and possibly a bit of narrative - might be interesting to what rubbish I can spout after 40+ hours of riding and <2 hours sleep ;)

Great little film.
You found a lovely bivvy spot there.
Watched on Singletrack Midweek movies. That should get your hit rate up and hopefully get a few people interested in trying a night out!

Keep up the good work!

Very impressive film Ian

I find it quite inspiring to do one of my own (not for one moment thinking it will be as professional as yours though)

Tony/Barney - thanks. Hope it inspires someone to get out there, if not to that specific point.

As far as film quality is concerned, Barney, I think a lot comes from patience in trying to tie the right bits of each clip (I had over an hours worth to sift through for this one), and match it to the right music in the right places. 9 months ago I'd never been anywhere near movie editing software, but have found iMovie fairly straightforward to use. I've done 6 videos in total, they're all on vimeo so you can see the progression of editing and shot ideas. Gives me something to think about while riding :)

Give it a go!

I enjoyed that :)

But you know the bit at the end when you start going on about purpose and get all emotional about a bridge

Well you see that bridge..

I'd 'ave bunny hopped that!

If you come over the other way, there's a nice little step you can huck off ;)

I assume you weren't eaten by predator between 3.25 and 3.40?

Really enjoyed the video, especially the almost poetic narration. Super underwater shot. I suppose we'll all be getting underwater shots with the amount of rain we're getting. :D
