Looking at buying a Terra Nova Discovery Lite Bivvi Bag and would like the view of anyone who already has one.
It's nice and light but will it last and its not particulalry cheap.

What's drawing you to the TN Discovery-Lite CL?

I have a Terra Nova Voyager tent and a Saturn hooped bivvi bag (which is really good but 1100g) and have been pleased with the quality and performance, but I was looking for something lighter and the
Discovery Lite is 300g and GoreTex.

I'm an eVent man myself ... but you're right, I can't come up with anything that fits the above criteria

I considered one but the end zip was odd and I think would end up creating loads of condensation due to breathing into the bag.

Alpkit hunka is only 75g more and a third of the price...

Im with Stuart much prefer event material over gore these days I use a rab event bivy its great

I'm looking at one of these for the Highland Trail, and I think Aidan uses one ('nuff said?).
Breathability of goretex vs eVent shouldn't be so much of a problem if I'm only spending 3-4 hours in it at a time...

I have read elsewhere about someone having an issue with the zip, the Alpkit Hunka sounds tempting at only £30 but it being so cheap makes me slightly nervous !!

Andy, Gabe and I were using the Hunka XL during There n Back. I only went for the XL so I could fit my air mattress inside it and have a bit of elbow room. I have used it on wet days and stayed dry, hot days and not been sweaty, cold days and stayed warm. Probably as much to do with what I have used in conjunction with it but it hasn't been a weak link.

bag done up and you are breathing into it !

Current Goretex/Event air perm bivi fabric get 25,000mvtr, old Taslan Gortex around 15,000 and our fabric about 10,000mvtr which in real terms means that if your not breathing into it, then it is breathable enough. Some conditions you do get condensation on the inside of the fabric but for most people this seems to be managable.

I'm not one to put the hood over my head/face anyway. If I'm in conditions where I would need it over my head (raining?) I would be under the tarp so I guess that's why it's never been an issue for me.

On ThereNBack I breathed into it for a bit at the beginning of the nite, as I was cold, but I soon started breathing outside, and it was fine, there wasn't any condensation in it when I woke up in the morning.

Any bivi bag that you breath into overnight will have condensation issues no matter how good it is, just don't do it. Only ever had condensation problems once with my hunka. I was kipping under a half pyramid tarp with my feet sticking out in the rain and the wet part of the bag wouldn't breathe so got condensation in the bottom half.

That's kind of the general idea but in anything other than good conditions it makes for a crap night ... but in good conditions you won't be needing a bag with this level of protection, so catch 22 really. I think a breathable, fully waterproof, fully enclosed bag is great for racing but is too much of a compromise for general nights out.

£140 was the cheapest I have found from Field & Trek

No, not this year, I am having a crack at the TD before I get too old :)

Field & Trek include delivery so that makes it .50p cheaper woohoo

I reckon the Rab Alpine bivvy might be worth a look. Slightly heavier than the TN but with a proper bathtub floor and a bit more room inside.
