Right guys am i missing something here?
Been putting my bike back together as i bought some bar end shifters n brakes to make my crosser alittle more gear friendly for wildcat 100. However ive spent the last couple of hrs setting up the bleeding gears which im no further with.
My set up at the mo is mtb triple up front with a xt 9spd mech. Up back ive left the 10spd cassette and chain on and put a mtb xt mech on which works fine with chain and cassette. My problem is up front the shifter will move the mech but it doesnt seem to wanna shift the chain from the middle to top? I bought a new square taper BB which is 118mm im now wondering if thats to long or is it that the chain isnt compatible with the chain rings? This is strange though as it shifts between the small and middle fine.....
Bit lost now for ideas....
gears...ahhhhh? need some help

What's it actually doing? Shifter running out of travel? Mech' running out of travel? Mech' hitting something? Mech' not picking the chain up?it doesnt seem to wanna shift the chain from the middle to top?

Re: gears...ahhhhh? need some help
stuart, just been looking on Sheldon Browns site and for the model crank ive got i should be using a BB with length of 110-113. I bought a 118 so im guessing i need to go smaller? which makes some sense as the large chain ring seems to far out. I think the mech and levers are fine. Cant desribe it very well. Im gonna order a 113 and try that first as SB says that 9 n 10 spd stuff should work together fine.
Re: gears...ahhhhh? need some help
It could be the front mech adjuster screw, limiting the front mech movement.
Re: gears...ahhhhh? need some help
the screws are right out the mech just wont go out far enough which is why now im thinking ive bought the wrong BB. A smaller one is ordered so ill see when it comes. Looking on sheldon brown website i should be using a 110mm BB

Hopefully that'll sort it but just make sure it leaves you with some clearance between the granny and the chainstay when it's all bolted up tight.the screws are right out the mech just wont go out far enough which is why now im thinking ive bought the wrong BB. A smaller one is ordered so ill see when it comes. Looking on sheldon brown website i should be using a 110mm BB

Re: gears...ahhhhh? need some help
A 113mm should work on most bikes.
Re: gears...ahhhhh? need some help
I wanted the 113mm but they had none instock o rather than go elsewhere i ordered the 110. Couldnt wait and all that but ill prob end up sending that one back to as its to close like stu says......doh
