Your 'goals' for the coming year.

Has anyone got any goals for the new year? Do you want to ride so many miles or have X number of nights out per month? Is there an event you want to complete? Are you going to do that ride you've promised to do for years?

I think having a goal)s) at this time of year is a very positive thing ... sadly I can't think of any*, which means my imagination has finished for Christmas already or I've achieved all there is to achieve :?

*Bivvy a month will be on the cards though.

I tend to have running goals rather than cycling goals for some reason :?

2013 was useless so going to have a proper shot at the bivvy a month next year.

Do atleast 1 day ride over 100 miles.

Drink less.

Try and be less disappointed in most of the human race.

Most important is to get a new job and move house! I'm miserable doing what I'm doing and living in the SE.

In cycling terms, I'd like to do the bivvy a month and have a few route ideas for multi day trips.

I'm road cycling in the alps in September so need to get fit for that so I can put in some respectable efforts on the climbs.

Would like to do the 100 mile gravel race too and actually race rather than get around...

First baby due first week of May, so only 3 goals;
-3 day (?) ride before its due. Maybe a Welsh coast to coast sort of thing
-Learn baby stuff!
-Start training mid summer for the Rovaniemi 150 in 2015

Have a few things in mind for 2014:

Lakeland 200
TCW single record attempt
HTR 560
2TOG
PBW end to end
Finalise a decent Welsh Coast to Coast and set an ITT for it.

Only got into this bike packing malarkey properly last year and only managed 2 trips. Definitely gonna try for a bivvy a month next year. Also got a 2 day trip planned and a leisurely 3 day ride of TCW.

For me, next years goals revolve around my weight loss and fitness! However, i have realised that without a specific event to aim for, i never achieve/maintain my weight loss. :D

My overall aim is to shift 4 stone during the course of the year and hope to do it by doing the following:-

- Skills weekend with Forest Freeride!
- BB200 - This is the main event i am aiming for next year. It will probably kill me, but at least i know i will be challenging myself.
- WRT x 2 - I plan to take part in this years WRT. In addition, a few people were kind enough to send me some routes for last years WRT i never got round to completing, so i plan to take those on!
- Coast to Coast following Hadrians Wall over 2 days.
- Try to run at least 1 mile everyday!

I have other things i would like to do such as TCW, Pennine Bridleway, Isle of Man E2E, but dont want to set myself too many goals! But a decent trip per month isnt out of the question!

Im hoping along with the above and the fact i am aiming to bivi once a month, ill be able to shift the weight once and for all!

I'm trying to ride on a much smaller budget than before. so making the most of a couple of events is the way forward for me.

I'd like to actually finish a race and be happy with my placing - the last few years i have racked up DNfs i'm not sure i've actually finished a race in over 2 years!

wildcat 100 is definately a focus for the early part of the year. not sure about later on - maybe some audax stuff and a 2-3 night bivvy.

Couple for me...

1. Try to improve my fitness so I can enjoy longer rides
2. Have more confidence in what kit to take and leave (I know I still take too much)
3. Learn to ride out of my comfort zone (I do tend to just bivi on routes I know from "normal" rides)
4. Complete the bivi-a-month "challenge"
5. Take part in WRT and BB200

Looking forward to an exciting year.

Just ride my bike whenever I can, when work and the wife allows.

I have a couple of long over night routes in mind but I'm still to work on them before I shout about them

First thing's first sell 2 bikes to fund a new bling bike

love threads like this!

Bike related
Get two thirds of the way to my gold BB200 badge (trying to get round in 20-21 hours this time!)
Keep up with my mates on the C2C sportive
Complete the Two Tonnes. Sub 24 would be magic but getting round in a one-r will be equally as great!
Do another cross borders bike related black ops adventure ;)
Bivi a month
5000km in a year
Train harder than ever before

Non-bike related
Drink, eat, worry, procrastinate and generally panic less

For me 2013 was a year consisting mainly of failed attempts, reoccurring injuries and missed opportunities.

But…..2014 will be different!

My plans are:

- There ‘n Back

- Tour of Mont Blanc - No set date – I’d ideally like to do it twice next year. Once bikepacking and once in relative luxury.

- A big road event of some description. Most likely not the Etape next year but something equally big and daft.

- Would love to do the gravel race thingy but I’m unlikely to be able to participate as we’re not planning on being in the UK around then (but it’s on my wish-list).

- The MB-Race which is a mountain bike ultra marathon near Chamonix. You start and decide on the length you’ve got in you enroute (70km, 100km or 140km) – sounds like fun!

- Finally, I’d like to do the bivi-a-month challenge again next year (and who knows, maybe even achieve it in 2014).

Seems like enough to aim for and yet should be achievable with the right training and good luck!

Always good to have some goals in life and cycling. I've a few:

- like most I'm aiming to do the one night a month thing properly this coming year and I think the secret will be to give my long-suffering wife more notice rather than: "Hi, good day at work? Kids are bathing/eating/sleeping and I thought I'd go kip on a hillside."

- always wanted to cycle the length of the Grand Union Canal camping along the way, so that's slated for the first week of April with a meandering return trip down through the Cotswalds.

- some mates have signed me up for the Dragon Ride in early June. They are fit roadies who had their central nervous systems removed at birth and are already in training. I am already bricking it.

- lastly to continue to encourage my kids' interest in mixing cycling and camping without spoiling it for everyone, so we've a few weekenders planned once there is more daylight than nighttime.

That should do it.

Im missing the gravel race, and missed the sign up for HTR :(

I might do the gravel route alone after I'm back from my trip.
Lands End to John O'Groats as fast as I can do it.
EWE maybe
Some long road tours with friends
More long bike packing stuff
Ride up Mt Mulhacen in Spain
Train for TD in 2015 :)
