150-200 mile routes in Scotland
Can anyone give me ideas for 150-200 mile routes in Scotland (or maybe N. England) that don't involve more than a very small amount of hike-a-bike*
I think my brain is lacking any motivation mid winter and I just keep staring at maps but I want to start planning something for the spring
*I hate it, I found there was too much on the bit of the Cairngorm inner loop I did

Why not do the outer Cairngorms loop? There isn't any hike a bike. Think it's about 130 miles though so you could stretch it by a few miles.

Trans Scotland. It links some good off road tracks with quiet back roads.

Cheviot Hills are all very rideable, Kielder but some bridleways either very overgrown or non existent, check with the "Kielder Rievers" MTB site for advice, North York Moors, Yorkshire Dales. Very little in the way of access in the North end of the Pennines but what's marked generally exists. Hope this gives some inspiration Shaun.

Not a bad idea for a weekend blast actually. Bynack lodge to Fealar lodge on the return is a bit of a push in places but liveable with. I suppose you could just come straight back down Glen Tilt which makes it about 120mDan_K wrote:Why not do the outer Cairngorms loop? There isn't any hike a bike. That looks great, is there a link to a GPX I am missing?

I'm still a paper map guy, so gpx links are way beyond me. Miles had a Garmin. I will see if he has a link to the route.

Do you want all off road?
For quiet lanes there's the Hadrains wall route from Newcastle, turning off it at Whitehaven and returning home on the C2C route, then just ride back up the coast to Newcastle.

The outer Cairngorm loop is good and no hike a bike or too much hardship....
