I found a link to here over on STW where I recognize many usernames from.

I've never done any proper bikepacking before, though I've done a fair bit of touring by bicycle.

I want to try a bike packing trip in Idaho next September and already having had a quick scan through some threads this place is info central.

I'm in the throws of building up an El Mariachi, but I have no bags and I fear some of my existing gear may be too bulky to fit in them, so I need to read up on some more of what's on here.

Cheers, Peter

Welcome.

Is that the new ACA Idaho Big Springs route?

That is in my plans as well but more likely summer 2015.

Wildcat can cover all your bike packing luggage needs, worked for me the last couple of years with no problems.

Rule 1 - Any useful info off here must be repaid with suitable volume of photos from the trip.. : ) looks like a stunning route, would like to see more.

Good start with the Salsa, have had one since July and love how versatile it is. Have the Fargo forks on mine, so it can take the anything cages. Worth getting a frame bag too, got a half frame Alpkit possum for taking my tools and spare tubes etc

Yes, know the maps are due in February. Wondering about ordering the Trans-am while I am about it for 2016/7!

Will be interested to know how it rides, such as if sus forks recommended etc. once you have ridden it.

There is a guy with a set for sale on the CTC classifieds, PM him rather than wait for him to get back to check his post. You might get lucky.

The ACA have updated addenda for each map online, so even if you have an older set you can still get updates. Following blogs can also yield places to stay that aren't on the lists. Its a great ride. You'll love it
