I've just been reading the book 'Into the remote places' which is about some of the travels of Ian Hibell (the bloke in the clip). If you can find a copy it's well worth reading, you'll never complain about getting a bit wet or midges again. Looking at the Blue Peter clip you'd never know just what this fella put himself through in the pursuit of 2 wheeled adventure ... sadly he was killed in 2008 by a hit and run driver in Greece.
Crossing the Sahara.

Some 30 plus years ago I bought the panniers and handlebar bag that he designed for Carradice and could never get all my kit in them. I eventually realised that the bulk of his stuff was in a tarpaulin on top of the rack and panniers like a huge dhobi bundle.
Got a very good price for the panniers and bar bag on eBay a couple of years ago

Aaah shep, what a beautiful dog.
How many people did he cook for with that huge pan?

As I say, the book's well worth tracking down. It's fairly scarce which sadly means second hand copies are expensive.
