My last CX related Q ... honest.

Just sorting the cables out and can't decide whether I should:
A / Break the gear cables out of the tape along the bottom edge of the bar before the drop ... kind of old school.
B/ Keep them under the bar tape all the way round the drops.
My thoughts are that option A might produce a better shifter (bar-end) action but means there's quite a bit of 'dangly' cable and possibly looks a bit odd. Option B should look neater but might make my bars a bit 'lumpy'.
Thoughts please.

A or B makes no difference in performance.
A - an increased badger-lassoing risk.
B - slightly lumpy feel of the cable but acceptable if positioned correctly in line with your normal hand position.
edit: A - might also restrict use of a bar-mounted bag
Ps use the Park Tools youtube video for how to wrap bartape

I'd go for running the cables under the full length of the bar tape and avoid those two rather goofy looking loops of cable hanging under your bars, getting in the way of a harness, hooking branches and garrotting badgers. My opinion only of course. I used to run bar ends on a set of randonneur bars that had recesses for cables the whole length of the drops and hoods. Always thought they were going to crease and fold at some critical juncture but they stayed solid for years. I was sure I got them from SJS Cycles but nothing showing on their website. Wish I could remember the brand.

You might have trouble finding an inner cable long enough for option B.

Use inner cables for tandems.

under the tape sounds neater to me?
That makes it better, right?

I had it taped right under on my road bike, worked fine. Just used normal inners and they were long enough.
