Engineering type question..

I mainly run a SS for all off road stuff after being recently converted and love the simplicity and "release" from the feeling I have to race everywhere off road.
On the road I use an Alfine as the SS just doesn't cut it as a commuter.
The Alfine changer only has a single bolt on the handlebar bracket so I have to remove the grip and brake to get the changer off.
Would it be possible to modify the handlebar bracket to have a double bolt and a split bracket?
It would make swapping between the two rigs a five minute job.

I'd go for a bolt and hinge type jobby.
Or easier still (if possible) see if you can bolt the ahifter to the brake lever clamp (sram matchmaker style)

(... this is off the top of my head without really knowing how the alfine shifter actually goes together.)

Funny, I get the opposite ;)

My brother alternates between SS and Alfine, but just leaves the shifter in place and tapes/zip-ties the other end of the cable to the chainstay when he has it as SS.

Use lock-on grips. Easy to swap everything over then.

Like this idea. Might be able to use the hinged bracket and cut the Avid clamp to fit on.

I use ESI chunkies and really like them. Don't want to go back to-lock ons unless there's no other option.

I like the clean uncluttered minimalist lines without cables, so it just has to come off. :)

For a similar issue (Pace lock out lever and WTB dirtdrops incompatibility issue!) I had Lee Cooper braze a steel headset spacer with a 25.4mm dia stub on the side. Quick rattle can black and a bar end plug and sorted :)

Run in place of a 30mm headset spacer and worked really well...if it could be of use I'll dig it out and post it on.
