Its time to dust off the flat caps and wake up your Whippets, The Tdf will be visiting the Shire on the 5/6 July
I have a route in mind which will allow us to watch the action on both days, with some great riding in between and a visit to a couple of pubs. It will be a very social occasion, with everyone welcome.

Planning on a bivy ride up on the moors, friends in Yorkshire are planning it so I'm leaving it to their route knowledge. Think the plan is to head out to one of the bigger climb areas.

I live in Harrogate so will either walk down into town both days or rent out the house for a mint and join you on the bivi. Either way I'll be making a long weekend of it with some Dales riding.
Shout if anyone needs any info about the local.

I think I will be in a party of up to 20 so may have to go with the flow! Will be camping out the night before, again aim for the biggest climb nearest to Sheff to see the riders go by at their slowest!
having seen tour stages before, the main event is over in a blink of an eye normally!

I've taken in two stages in the past and Pete's right, six hours I wasted on the side of a French road for about 3 seconds of peloton to come past.
Anti-climax is an understatement.
I may still come for the more social side of things though.

So true.
I stood shivering in the wind and rain for over an hour to glimse 'some blokes' riding rather quickly on this years TOB. The best bit was getting to the cafe in Llanidloes piss wet through and dripping and having 2 old dears ask me how I was getting on in the bike race :D

Not bad ... a full breakfast and 2 mugs of tea, followed by the sun coming out for the stage home

The road race in Otley is much better. Short loop circuit that takes in a couple of main streets in the village. Means every 10 to 15 minutes the group rushes past and they do multiple laps. Makes it a bit more of a spectator event.
The real boon is that there's a bunch of pubs and chippers so whilst some of the fittest / lowest body fat folk wize round joe public indulges in a pint and a bags of chips

Only a truly understanding and selfless husband would let his wife appreciate lots of incredibly fit men in lycra on her wedding anniversary . . . . . . .

I'm riding up there to bivi out and see the Tour, meeting up with ChrisE hopefully. Maybe get a bit 'Dutch' on a good viewpoint and draw things on the road

Be good to catch up with anyone who's around that weekend.
