I've been looking at the Specialized Trigger in 38c (£20) and Kenda Small block 8 and slant 6 in 35c (£26)

I like the look of Clement MSO but they're £38 a pop... Which is way too much for the way I wreck tyres

*I should add, I'm not using them yet... My frame is still straggling...

I use Kenda kross supremes, the most MTB like tyre i can find in 35c

In 9 months ive had 2 punctures, and they were both in the last 2 weeks (the tires are knackered)

I've got on alright with some 35c Vittorias. £35 a pair with tubes from On-One at a very muddy 2012 mayhem to use on my 29er, then moved onto the Fargo for road-biased rides with a bit of byway action. Have worn well and no punctures to date (thats done it....). :)

I think I am either going to go Schwalbe Land cruiser or Smart Sam. I had land cruisers before and they are great on tarmac but not too convincing in any mud.

The schwalbes are cheap atleast.

When I commute I often do so on SB8s on a roadrat. I really like them and they work OK. Bit of bridleway and rough lane in the commute. Never ridden the original tyres it came with or anything skinnier so not a lot to compare to. I imagine they'll suffer in situations just like full size SB8s will but maybe that's not so different to many other CX type tyres.

In summary, they're great for me, that might not mean they're so good for you.

First pair of CX tyres I used were Maxxis Larson Mimo's 32c. Fast, light, fine tread. Wear down a bit quick though ~ 600 miles.

In a moment is comparative flushness, I bought some Stan's Raven's 33c. Very light, very fast, very expensive, surprisingly grippy for the shallow tread & can be set up tubeless. Not the most forgiving tyre on rougher terrain. Might be OK for a certain gravel race next year.

I'm now running Panaracer Cinder X, 35c, which have a bit more volume/ tread than the above. Besides a sidewall slit on the Claerwen track a month ago, which I patched from the inside, they're a good tyre. Will probably stay on the bike until they wear out.

Anyone tried twisters? Cheap, folding, available in 32 or 37mm

small block 8 is a great tyre: much better in mud than the mtb version; probably due to it's width. The other thing with it is it's quite tall so has a bit of squish. turns much nicer than the twister too....

The twister is ok, but i found that the edge is too square, when cornering on tarmac you ride on the edge knobs before you've leaned over very much and then it's really really squirmy.

Had some smart sams on my old 29er.
They weren't bad at all.

I'm running Maxxis Raze on my Amazon at the moment. When I bought them, they were marked as 35c but I see they are now 32c. I suspect they've maybe done that to fit into the UCI limit :D

Great on the sandy, gravelly trails we have up here and pretty fast on road stuff too as the central blocks are quite closely spaced.

I've had them fitted on both Open Pro and Arch Ex rims and there's a noticeable increase in volume with the latter, so I'm in the process of getting some another set of 21mm rimmed wheels.

I'm running a second set of foldable Kenda Kross Supreme's. Very cheap, but extremely grippy on all conditions.

I've ordered a pair of Schwalbe Smart Sam in 700x35 to try. They are cheap (£30 pair), looks like they will roll fast on road and not kill me off road. Think they are 450g in 35mm, 540g in 40mm and who knows what in 47mm. Hope to get the bike built for the weekend or early next week to try them.

I too have just ordered some tyres. Kenda Kwickers, folding, 35C and 350g. I don't imagine they'll do too well on the road but they should handle some muddier / rockier stuff fine ... All terrain cycles for £17.50 per end.

I'll be interested to hear if the Kenda's hold sealant / air then. The last mtb Kenda's I tried wouldnt stay on the rim. (Small Block 8 / Crest)

40c version wighs in at 550g £15. Looks fast down the middle but with a nice edge knob - this might be the tyre i'm after....

In my search for something a bit wider I've found Conti CrossRides at £15 each. They're a 42c tyre and weigh in at an alleged 420g.

Question is - will they fit in my frame???
