Afternoon all,

Im supposed to be heading out tonight after work, bike is all loaded up, but im starting to get a little worried on the lighting situation. I dont have a decent light to take with me, i have a poor effort from my road bike, which is great for that, but i cant imagine it lighting up a trail and i have an alpkit gamma head torch. So with the sun setting around 7pm, ill have only 2 hours to get from Rochdale to somewhere decent to camp up before ill be losing decent light to cycle in. I still think im going to venture out, though i am getting a little nervous about it.

For future, i will be looking to pick up a light. I read the review on here about the Sanguan SG T2200, just wondered how these have held up for those that have bought them and if they are recommended? I dont really want to be spending much more than £100 on one, as i have already bought a load of expensive gear my missus takes great pleasure in telling me i have not used! Any advice would be great!

The SG T2200 I tested is still going strong BUT at over £100 it's still quite a bit of cash to shell out on a light. If you plan on using it often then it makes perfect sense, however if you're only venturing out a few times a year then any of the generic Chinese lights will do the job fine.

I've used the cheapo ebay ones in the past and although ok they did fail on me which left me in a tricky situation.

I've got one of the V2 lights, really neat set plus they come with a UK charger and a guarantee

The owner (can't remember his name) is on a couple of forums and is really helpful. He sent me a couple of extra cables free of charge one time.

Back in the day when budget was my primary concern, "Ay-Up Lights" were all the rage.

Well I have a bunch of Magic Shines that I have used for years and they haven't really let me down. Replaced one battery in that time but only cause I was getting life of about an hour on full blast. Started using that just as a commuting battery. They are much maligned though in some circles and there have been quality control issues in the past. Bad soldering etc. again not on the ones I have.

The torch is good and I would probs buy from him again if I wasn't going dynamo based in future.

Smudge is a pretty good bloke, knows his stuff. recommended

Currently trialling (and using on the BB) an 'Ultrafire WF-501B Torch Flashlight - 1000+ lumens' (£23 on amazon tho i got mine for 17 a week or two back) with Torchy 2600mAh 18650 3.7v Li-ion batteries (Ebay £10 - 1 x battery gives about 90min on 1/2 power)) and it's proving excellent. Have had a vast range of lights over the years, including 'Magic Shine' and others of that genus and, while those are excellent - both light and value - the above is the best yet. OK it's not 1000 lumen (probably more like 800) but then I've never liked riding in a blaze of light anyway.

I started off with Chinese lanterns but have Exposure lights now. They hideously expensive but are very nicely finished.
