Interesting Kickstarter Project

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rob ... -adventure

This chap called Rob is cycling round the world and doing a huge amount of self publishing via various medias. He made it half way and ran out of cash. So he is doing a crowd source to raise enough cash to continue.

I thought I was hard bivying without full brewing kit a few weeks back. This guy has cycled over mountains in thick snow and deserts at temperatures hot enough to fry and egg. It is a good reminder of what can be achieved with a bike and a will.

So if you like reading about big cycle adventures it might be worth a look. Send him a quid if you like it. I pleged a little to get him on his way. If I met someone bikepacking who needed the price of a beer to get home I'd do it then. So in 2013 I'm doing it the modern way.

Love this pic of his: Image

great pic, agreed.

Whilst I wish him the best of luck... I doubt I'll be giving him cash for his holiday. I'll put it towards my own holidays, trips and my usual few quid in the mountain rescue box.

Actually, I'll re phrase that...

At the risk of sounding like a tight northerner (that I am)

No bloomin way...

Fund a bloke to cycle round the world? Why on earth would I do that?
He actually wants people fund him to ride half way round the world because he didnt like the lack of creativity in his job... and to buy him a go-pro and new tent!
None of the pledges go towards his charities?

Is he joking? He must be... as must your good self?

I'm with you FLV

Wish him well with his trip and he'll be more than welcome to pop round for a brew and shower, but he must be on another planet if he thinks people are going to give him money to pay for his holiday. Not many things annoy me, but people raising money for 'charity' while having a jollie is one of them. If you want to help fund the charities just send the cash direct.

Have to say I agree...

I think his "trailer" was on this weeks STW midweek mini movies. I enjoyed it until it got to the bit where he asks for money to complete the trip... At which point I turned it off thinking that he should have planned the endeavour better rather than expect others to pay for his (albeit rather extended) holiday.

I would like to think if I undertook such a venture, I would try to ensure I had the means to make it work, with contingency.

On the other hand, fair play for attempting to circumnavigate the globe by bike, even if it does seems rather fashionable these days...

*** Just seen that this is not the chap on STW this week. Sorry about that. However, that does mean that there are two chaps asking for money to complete their holidays in the same week! ***

Tight Southerner...

Pic looks like a tunnel I've cycled through in Belgium, probably isn't.

It's a shame he's not offering or taking deposits on a book of photography to be sent after the ride for a fair price, his photos are excellent, great escapism stuff. I'd buy a coffee-table type book, but don't care much for an on-screen pdf book. I reckon he could get a lot of £25-30 pledges for that. He mentions a book plan but I can wait for that without offering any funds. Tight, maybe.. edit - I think I am being tight.. will send something, I relate to the guy's aims and I like his photography. Not that I disagree with the sentiments above either tho )
