Inner tubes... near the valve

Got back from a very wet, windy and cold ride on Monday afternoon - so windy I retreated from the climb up Winter Hill, and my hands (thumbs) were too cold to change gear (the cable does need cleaning and lubing). I didn't realise my tools and spare tubes were not with me, but in another bag I use when I'm carrying my stove etc. in a frame bag...
Got home and warmed up, then saw that my front tyre was flat... investigating today I find it is yet another 'puncture' where the seat of the valve has come away, so it has to go in the bin. And it is fairly new, no actual punctures in the tune. Tube is a Bontrager.
Lucky it only went when I had got back home !
Has anyone else had this sort of problem with their tubes ?
