I'm fairly happy with my Redshift stem, and was considering getting a matching seatpost.
I ride a Spaceframe Jones and use a Thomson layback seat post.
I have a fab Carradice seat bag on the QR rack.
It's a great bag and one that I suspect will take over from the Ortlieb seat bag on bikepacking trips as it's a doddle to pack and is as stable as you like.

I like the comfort of the layback post and love the Jones. But I'm 58. A little comfort in the seat area would probably be appreciated.
As the bag is attached to the seat not the post it should work ok with the Redshift, as long as it stays away from the rear wheel under compression which I'm sure it would.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Similar but different - using a seat pack on a dropper post. It will only be at the most a couple of kg so in theory no problem....whilst seated, and restrained between your butt. But when you are stood up, there is then a lot of weight acting on the bushings side to side and they do wear. So I guess it's a case of how stiff and of what type are the bushings on the redshift post. I've seen a few people using seat packs with Can Creek thudbusters....

Not sure what bushings they use.
Seems to be two systems available ... the standard one looks like it's just springs with little else, & the Pro that uses springs and elastomers as per the stem.
I'm a 'solid fellow' at about 100kg, with the seat bag I suspect it's be another 4 or 5... so I 'd be near the top of the rider weight limit, so efficacy may be reduced too.

One thing I've noticed about using a dropper, is that the shaft is so weedy on a 2.7.2 post it flexes enough to give a comfy ride!

Length: Minimum 100mm, Maximum 274mm
Probably not long enough for me ... not knowing a) where that's measured to b) how much sag there is when under normal load .

My Thomson is 290mm from seat clamp to rails...

I got an old Rockshox suspension seat post with elastomers in it off of eBay for a tenner.
Works ok to take the edge off the bumps and seems fine with a seat bag on it

Maybe worth looking for one of them? Not much money to gamble

You can pick up similar USE ones off ebay for sub-£20 (older ones are called something like 'XCR', newer ones are 'Vybe', both work well enough).
