or do you have any suggestions of what's good for strengthening bar-bag rub. It's for the lovely new (to me) Prongs that PostieRich is donating me basically the front just below the crown and before it bends round to the underneath for the wheel.

So I was oringally thinking to get the fishing rod carbon repair kit. Wrap it around (it's a boost fork that can probably handle 3.2 tyres, I'll never go anywhere close so have more real estate to play/epoxy/laminate over) a few times and allow it to cure.

I have not and whilst it would probably work fork failure would be quite catastrophic.
Why not get a quite from a carbon repairer , most of the cost seemed to be aesthetics when i looked so a sinple wrap should be cheap ish

Good point John. But the area of concern isn't too much of an issue hopefully. I'll be speaking to Traverse about it also just for good measure and obviously I'll not be riding anything hard-core

I used something similar to repair carbon motorbike fairings and it worked ok. Wasn’t a structural part so was happy enough with the results. It’s a bit like glass fibre kits so pretty easy to work with as long as everything is clean and you just take your time with it.

Thanks Keith, yeah it's more the aesthetics but I'm no specialist. I'll see how I get on and if there's no Shafiq in a month or 2 time, then we know it's was more than just aesthetics.

Looks like it would do the job. I nicked some carbon sheet and posh epoxy from my mate who repairs canoes and it looks like the same stuff. Cutting the carbon sheet is tricky - serrated and very sharp scissors are best.

Re the forks, put a straight edge over the damaged area and try to work out the loss of section. It might only be on the outer coat, not the actual carbon structure.

Nice 1 Phil. Thing is, it's at the curved/rounded section. But I plan to measure thrice, cut once. Thanks so much about the serrated scissors, leaves me with a good excuse to go get some more quality scissors

If the loss of material is mid crown area, I'd look to locally patch fill that then over wrap bandage style with some strips of the carbon.
Then wind over the top the Shrink Tape to consolidate - pull with good tension. Leave to cure.

After wetting out the carbon, I'd roll out a lot of the resin as it'll make it easier to handle and there will be a lot less ooze when over wrapped with the tape.

The stretch tape will leave a ridged finish, you be fine to flat that back with wet, wet&dry paper working up through the grade to get a good finish.

If there is no UV stabliser in the the epoxy it will go yellow over time, over spray with clear coat or a coloured paint will help this.
