Mud Guards - Yes or No?

Yesterday, i had a huge amount of fun at the recently opened trail centre at Clayton Vale, to the point where i have decided to use my On One to commute to work. The plan is on my way to work or on the way home, nip off to the trail and have some fun.
This morning however, i got absolutely soaked and muddy as hell cycling down the canal, so have been considering mud guards. My first question is, would you bother? Or would you just get wet and save the weight. Also, which ones would you consider? I like the look of these but unsure of the quality.
Any advice would be great.
