The Our Lives strand is proving to be a BBC hidden gem. In this episode, there is a 30-year age gap between historian Ioan and dairy farmer Al, but their unlikely friendship is joyous to watch as they share a passion for the abandoned metal mines of mid-Wales. In this lovely half-hour, they explore “a hidden, forgotten world of history – time capsules waiting to be discovered”.

@godivatrailrider We went to see Small Things Like These, I read the book a couple of years ago. A tough story, magdalene laundries related, but pleased I went to see it despite the lack of laughs.

There was also a young couple on that series doing a 100 mile walk around the Lakes over a week taking in some of the crags along the way. Worth 30 mins of anyone’s time,

But yes, the mining one was vaguely exciting

Shame most of the other series are not available, wonder what I’ve missed out on

Found the entrance while down visiting my mum the other week and was surprised to find it open.

Gawd that takes me back. Although the memories are rather blurred since they were usually followed by a bit of a session in the Hunters. Occasionally the session in the Hunters was before going down which made things interesting...

@godivatrailrider I read Foster a few years ago, it was also made into the film 'The Quiet Girl' which we went to see onn its release.

Finally watched it. Excellent. The gents are very respectful of the mines and the history. A real shame that so many sites were obliterated in the latter half of the 20thC in the name of "eyesore removal", particularly after they'd survived unharmed for hundreds of years.

Just had a little daydream about WRT2020 with BDS Steve when we visited 26 metal mines around the Nantymoch area.

Right, off to re-read my 6-volume "Old Metal Mines Of Mid Wales" books again ....
