In the routes page. If I click a link for the GPS. It only let's me open in my Wahoo, but even then it won't open (some sort of unsupported message.

Is the answer to go via the donate button or something else? Maybe I need to login via laptop and try that way. Sorry for a seemingly silly question in case I'm missing summat. Just trying to download and browse the Big Bear (not that I'd be wanting to try it). Just curious really, maybe.

Let me try again. Must be on the laptop then right! I made payment thinking it has something to do with it. Maybe I'll use another browser. 2 ticks.

Nah. Not working for me. Just downloads an XML file whatever that is. Anyway, if anyone has the big bear 520 route as a GPS can I grab it please. Just yo take a peek and load it into Google maps. Like you do!

A GPX file is in XML format which is the route. To view it on Google Maps I think it needs to be in KML format, pretty sure Google do not support GPX import directly but that may have changed

I usually download the gpx file (or whatever is the version Stu sends for the BBx routes) Dave. Then open it in my Viewranger app and browse the OS etc. I also then use that gpx file to download into my laptop, then use my Google MyMaps to save it into Google Maps. Then go into the phone and I can load the full route into my Google Maps view (just to check the facilities).

Like so...

In Firefox on Mac desktop I just click the link and the browser downloads it to the downloads folder.

Most browsers these days will automatically download many if not most file types if they can't display it themselves.

Shaf, they should be the exact same format as what gets sent out as it's those which are added to the site. Have you tried opening the download in something like bikehike?

Just tried on the iPhone for you

Click on download

Then go the address bar on your browser and click on downloads (via blue arrow)

Open up the file and tap on that

Mine took me straight to the OS app and uploaded the route there

Must be my browser (DuckDuckGo). It often does some weird things I think. I downloaded this from RWGPS - I believe it's the one.

I've tried chrome but will try Firefox too in case. Just for ref.

Must be my phone just playing up. After clicking on a gpx file usually I get a link to open with my OS reader or Wahoo app. OS reader (outdooractive) isn't showing up and clicking to load with wahoo shows me this.

I'm in a similar camp having not followed a GPS track yet...but I can (and did today) save a gpx and upload to Outdoor Active. I've no intention of following it properly though, just a reference on the electric map in my pocket.

Shaf, if you're on Android using chrome, then it'll be in your download folder on your phone once you click the link. On the OA app, go to 'plan' in the hamburger menu, then top right options on the route planner map gives you the 'import gpx' option and you can choose from file locations. Just tried myself and was straightforward. You can then export it from there...?

Nah, definitely something fishy going on. The problem is that for some reason it's started saving things as XML instead of gpx (I think). Usually I have no issues getting a route into my OS maps or Wahoo (that's the Wahoo equivalent of a Garmin Reg... a Garmin is a computer like device, some people manage to download a digital map onto it, swear alot and sometimes manage to navigate a 100 miler route).

Anyway, I've downloaded the gpx file via RideWithGPS (another app, similar to Strava Reg, probably better - Strava being a digital mapping application where you kinda like Facebook your rides  ) so it'll do for now. As to why the routes page isn't working on my device (using 3 different browsers including Chrome) will remain a mystery.

Fair cop. Then again, those who persevere..... I must admit I do tend to appeal to the more discerning reader, and it's hardly my fault if one hasn't the gumption to fathom it all out    .

I fixed the problem (or found what the problem was for me). Opened the forum/routes via the laptop. Instead of opening as an XML file (whatever that means) which isn't recognised by my phone/comp apps, it instead opened as a gpx when downloaded on the computer.

Managed to load it into Google maps and having a look. Thanks again all, not that I'm capable of a Big Bear or owt. But, driving instructor used to tell us (buses), 'you don't ask, then you don't get'.

Thanks all. Stu, I wonder why it only opens as an XML from the phone browsers (tried 3).

Shaf, I sometimes have the same problem when downloading routes from our cycle club app. As I understand it, some sites and/or browsers try to be clever will see that the contents of the .gpx are just XML and so try and process it accordingly. It may be that they suffix any file with a .xml too so you end up with a 'myRoute.gpx.xml' downloaded. Renaming/removing the suffix so you're back to myRoute.gpx seems to get back to where you need to be to have it play ball.

They could just be making it all up - but you'll never know 😉

Yes. For some reason it changed it to XML instead. Couldn't change it. But when using the laptop it loads it as a gpx. Pretty sure I've previously loaded routes without problem like this.
