For 2025 on route to Bear Bones Towers

We lost the excellent Star Inn at Dylife around COVID.

I hear that Pauline at the Wynnstay has stopped doing evening meals now.

So I/we need to find a new pub that does food with rooms for those without a campervan before The Winter Event and the WRT in 2025 on the way from the England side on the way to Llanbrynmair

Which pub/s do you next recommend we move over to?

Folk have stopped at the Aleppo in Carno - not as spenny as The Star but a bit more than The Wynnstay. Phil (and others) have had first hand experience.

I'm also thinking of staying somewhere this years BB200 John. Might be the icing that helps me complete the event. Is Wrexham too far a drive from the community centre at Lanbrymair on the Saturday morning. Or is it fairly quiet.

My needs/wants are slightly different you see. Don't really stay at public houses/Inns. Usually just use a YHA or Travleodge. But, seems that YHAs (within a 60 mile radius anyway) around Llanbrymair community centre are extinct. The only Travelodge is the One at Wrexham it appears, but it cuts my drive down the jight before into halves.

Shaf, there's a Travelodge at Oswestry which is a bit closer - it's about an hour's drive from Llanbrynmair. I've used it a few times. There's also a Premier Inn nearby.

The Aleppo at Carno is a good pub - food fairly reasonably priced and beer very good value. Rooms come in at about £100 per night which seems to be the going rate just now :???:

Eaten at the Allepo & the food was good, The Unicorn at Caersws is ok to stay & has a decent amount of parking..

The star, Y Star , Dylife is on booking.com and had one room left after I just booked mine

Price was £62 for 1 person, may change

I realised I passed it on the Winter Wrt

I’ve stayed at the Aleppo and it was good. Reasonably priced and good food and drink. Have also ised Oswestry travelodge (as mentioned by Bob above). Was also fine, but further away than the Aleppo and no real food options nearby.

For hostels are either of these any good

Both Elynedd hostels are about 90mins south of Llanbrynmair, so a fair drive away.

The Unicorn in Caersws closed back in April.

No idea what this place is like, but it is local(ish).

Thanks for this Tractionman. Unfortunately not as it's past Llanbrymair for me (so kinda defeats the purpose of reduced driving/costs etc. Thanks though and hopefully might use em in future.

There used to be a yha hostel in Llangollen but perhaps that's gone too, such a pity so many have been closed and sold, those two independents do look good, proper hostels as they used to be!

Wilderhope Manor and Ironbridge were others in Shropshire, I stayed at Clun and Bridges once but have they gone now too?

Hope you get something sorted!

Yes, thanks Tractionman. I've managed to book a room at Oswestry Premier Inn for £60. Ironbridge is still about I believe but it was further travel for me (and I imagine the price will be about £50 as it was that for a while).

Agreed, such a shame about some of the YHA having to close and other cheaper youtuh hostels.

Thanks for the update on the Unicorn Paul..

Any availability in Mach around the WRT weekend might not be easy due to the comedy festival..

I've stayed at the Aleppo before and would definitely stay again.

Easy enough to get to the towers the next morning

I spoke to The Unicorn at Caersws earlier this year and they stopped doing accommodation for cyclists after a previous guest had left the bedding "heavily soiled".

I don't know whether MB Wales offer accommodation. They're based in the old outdoor pursuits centre in Staylittle. https://www.mtb.wales/

If anyone of the boys (sorry girls) is coming from up north and doesn't plan to be drinking (alcohol) the night before then I've booked a Premier Inn on the Friday eve. £60, you could just split it with me.
