Road bike tyres

Hi

I'm just looking for some new roadie tyres, The Continental Grand Prix 5000 seem to always get great reviews but at £50 a tyre its the same price I pay for a car tyre :D

Is there much of a difference in ride and speed quality from 700 x 28 to a 32?

Thanks

Yeah. 25mm really don't ride anything like even the 28 (in gp5000 TL which I've ridden numerous versions of). IMO they'll be cheap cos more people are going for wider fit frames and 28c or 32c. If you can find 28 or even 32 in rd tyres they're a game changer.

Schwalbe pro1 (there's different version of the Schwalbe one so just do some reading Lemming) are excellent but the gp5000 are in another league..

+1 for Conti Ultra Sports, pure grip compound versions are great and a lot cheaper than GP5000s. They're not GP5000 level but they're still excellent for general use.

Not really ime both are narrow and a high oressure tyre so you are going to notice the tarmac quality with any tyre from.25-32.and wider . A few mm is not game changing IME.
A 32 running at 45 psi will be noticeable for both comfort and reduced/ impaired rolling

Wire bead though... Has always been a turn off for me.

I'll throw in Victoria Rubino Pros, or Zaffiro Pros if on a proper budget, both from Merlin.

I've actually found them to be alright - the weight difference isn't much on such skinny tyres and they are a ton cheaper than the equiv folding tyres.
Rubinos and zaffiros are super fast but a bit weedy - should be OK for a 28 but my 23's used to puncture as soon as look at them :???:

Scwalbe ones are OK too, also wire bead

I have the folding versions but it's just a minor weight saving, the compound and casing is good with either

I’ve been running and can recommend the WTB Expanse 32x700. Used for around 6months, set up tubeless and used for commuting and the odd weekend rides, they’ve been great and a big improvement on the 700x28 Conti Gatorskins I was using previously, improvements in comfort and grip, with no noticeable drop in speed.

Not the best deals on them at the moment but there’s seems to be some good deals on the WTB Exposures these seem like a halfway house between the Conti’s and the Expanse.

Another vote for Rubino pro.

Get around double the mileage I managed out of gp5000s
