Buying hard to find bike parts? (Shimano)

I've been looking a while for a new 2x12 groupset (XTR M9100) but I've really struggled to find it on sale in the UK (or actually Europe for that matter).

What's the deal with buying Shimano parts? Is it the sort of thing I could go into a store and ask them to source? The thing has been out since 2018 so I'm slightly confused as it why it's so hard to find.

To pre-empt some responses... I get that everyone is on 1x these days, but it doesn't really fit my needs (maybe 13 speed would be OK).

Yes, find a madison dealer and they can order it for you if it’s in stock

I think you can order from the madison website too and get it sent direct to the dealer and they get a cut of the price

Edit - might even be Freewheel website. I’d check for you but my internet is shocking at the moment

Wasn't there a fire in the Shimano factory a couple of years ago? Crikey 2018, https://www.shimano.com/en/cms/news/jap ... l_327.html

Cheers. I'll have a look.

Whenever I've needed specific Shimano bits, especially spares to fix bent mechs or odd size chain wheels etc. SJS cycles in Bridgewater have been my first stop. Might be able to supply parts to refurb your current group set or if you asked them nicely I expect they'd see if a full replacement was available. Sounds like you know what you want and are willing to pay a fair price for so it'd be well worth their while.

Happy hunting.

I've bought quite a bit from SJS over the years, so yeah, would be happy to use them again.

Hopefully I’m not patronising but my limited Google skills suggests the double chainset comes up as M9120 rather than M9100

Hang on, isn't there a new unused xtr double in the classifieds? Fairly near the top as garage or clear out sale??

M9100 is just the series.

Thanks, sadly the other 6 bits required doesn't really make it cheaper (or easier) to try and do it that way!
