A similar community scheme at The Rising Sun further down the Wye Valley has been very successful - open all week, food all day so hoping they reach the target at Brockweir

Stayed there once about 35 years ago. Couple from up north had just taken it over, perfectly pleasant, nowt wrong with it, perhaps other than a "yuppie" makeover. But they renamed it "Brockweir Country Inn", as seemed to be a fashion at that time. I found it amusing that they thought it necessary to explicitly point out that it was in the country. I would imagine that prospective customers already realised that they weren't visiting an inner-city backstreet boozer . Good luck to the share drive anyroad.

(plus I'm a bit negative about Brockweir because the residents there were one of the biggest objectors to the Wye Valley Greenway going through the village! Their claim was (is?) that it would attract too many cars carrying people and bikes to use the Greenway. Planning Permission was refused for that part of the route),

The community ownership means that the pub business doesn't have to pay rent, or interest on a mortgage/loan etc, so I imagine these much reduced outgoings can now make the pub feasible.

For someone who doesn't (really ) drink these days I have known (and still do) quite a number of pub landlords and owners and could tell a few stories from both sides of the counter. It is a very cutthroat industry

I wouldn’t buy a pub …… I work in the industry (beer dispense)
The only way possible would be to have a free house, and even then it’s difficult
Especially with the cost of utilities and staff.
Cooling a cellar (even a small one) can run to thousands per month
Got to sell a lot of beer just to cover costs.

Leased/Tennanted pubs are a hiding to nothing.Totally at the mercy of the Pubco.
I know several landlords that put a lot of money and energy to make their pub successful, only for the pubco’s to crank the rent up. Also as beer supplied is tied, the cost they pay for beer is massive. They buy from the brewer in bulk cheaply and then hike the cost up to tenant, without doing anything.
Don’t forget they take the profits from the games machines too.
