Re: The next Eclipse
There was a partial eclipse here in the UK about eight years ago that was impressive enough. Definitely one of those bucket list items
Loved this quote on the BBC site the other day:

Loved this quote on the BBC site the other day:
Even knowing that they are a product of orbital mechanics and so being able to predict them doesn't take away the spectacle, just imagine how ancient societies acted when the sun was suddenly blotted out.But Prof Don Pollacco, from the department of physics at the University of Warwick who travelled to Texas to view it
"I wouldn't bother watching any partial eclipses - I think they're a waste of time," he said.
He described total eclipses as "very magical", adding: "I'm a scientist, and I'm saying it's magical."
Better weight than wisdom, a traveller cannot carry
Re: The next Eclipse
Agreed a total eclipse is a bucket list item a partial eclipse is barely worth going outside for.

Re: The next Eclipse
But when you crash bang break it, it might then become a partial eclipse. If my calculations serve me correctly

Ha, I was looking at this yesterday too. I've got a mate who lives just outside the NE boundary of the path of totality who I've been meaning to visit...

Aha. Thanks Jon. I'll be 113 years old (if I'm alive) by then. I'll be sure to look out for it. Enjoy your Spain sightingJohnClimber wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 2:00 pmNo "The next Eclipse to hit the UK will be on 23th September 2090"redefined_cycles wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 1:23 pm Thanks for sharing that Jon. Re: The next Eclipse
I saw the 1999 one as well, 3000m up on Monte Pedido in the Pyrenees. We're in prime position for 2026 as we live 50km north of the blue line on John's map. Bookings being taken now
Re: The next Eclipse
I was on a lads holiday in Spain in 1999 and we slept through it
it was the morning after the night before
Didn't realise there was one so close next year. Makes for an interesting holiday destination

Re: The next Eclipse
Entirely coincidentally, I've just bought some E-Clips. Quite impressed. They automatically self-disengage when they detect a crash occurring so I can dismount easily. Whatever will they E- next I wonder.

12.08. is a good time to start a bicycle trip across Iceland.
2 - 3 weeks, some sightseeing, lots of offroad riding along glaciers, lots of wind and hot pots.
Oh... and the smell of rotten eggs.
