Something for the freezer bag chefs.

Pour and store bags are great but IM(tight arse)O are quite expensive. I decided to have a dabble with bog standard ziplock freezer bags to see whether they could be used instead.

First task was to see whether a normal freezer bag could actually handle boiling water. Ten minutes with the official scald 'o' meter revealed that they could handle the contents of a boiling kettle without exploding BUT there wasn't a chance of picking the thing up even if it was only half full ... imagine trying to pick up a balloon filled with boiling water and you'll get some idea. Obviously the bags are pretty thin and have no structure or shape like P&S bags do, so something was required to lend them a little support.

Thermowrap pouch, folds down flat and can be rolled up or stuffed somewhere.

Open pouch out, pop freezer bag inside, fold top of freezer bag over top of pouch and off you go. Your bag is supported and your food stays warm ... no burns, no swearing and no more dropping exploding freezer bags all over the kitchen floor ;)

*I've no idea whether any nasty chemicals are released from these bags when subjected to high temps, so if you die don't blame me, although I have to say they don't appear to taint the food at all.
