Winter Bivvy - date?

I know it's a very long time away (or it at least feels like it is) but while I remember I thought I'd mention it.

I can see two possible dates for the annual winter bivvy (Welsh version) ... either Dec 14th/15th or Dec 21st/22nd. Does anyone have a preference? 21st/22nd appeals to me but I don't have any potential issues with family or work so am happy to go along with whatever suits.

Will the Scots be throwing their hat in the ring again this year?

Not your fault you couldn't make it  .

Came across a large abandoned bungalow at NT 203 464 (Courhope) north west of Peebles which had it's front door kicked in. Didn't go in to check it out as I was pushed for time but could be usefull for an overnighter. Set in forest so lots of wood to get a fire going. Of course it could just be full of sheep poo or worse but i'll check it out at some point.

I cycled past that turn off last Friday. The forest looked like a great setting. I didn't check out the path or building. I was heading to my parents house for dinner and already late.

I don't know what I've got planned in Dec but having a young family means that I'd prefer it not to be too close to xmas.

I'll just keep my eye on the thread and if I'm available I'll put my name down nearer the time.

14/15 works for me - but the way things are going it might be my first bivi ride since the last winter bivi!

Don't worry, we've no hills ... everything just kind of undulates.

Any idea on where it will be? I will also jump in on this but confirm nearer the time, either date is good.

I'm going to stick my neck out and go balls out I'm in for my return to the fold

You've got Steve to thank for this and reigniting my need to bivvi by giving me my 2012 WRT T-shirt and the need to catch up with old friends :D

Hmmm I may need to build/procure a HT for this lark again :geek:

It's because I'm a polar bear ;)

You are right, only got my Zesty at the moment hankering after a hard tail as I sold my Swift last year as didn't get the use out of it. Thinking of getting a 650b when the 2014 bikes are released.

Genuine question Pete ... why ^?

I'd have thought you'd suit 29" better given your height.

It'll be good to catch up in Dec, so circle it on the kitchen calendar with a big black marker right now ;)

I don't know why tbh then Steve got me thinking about a fat bike too, damn him ;)

I just want a do it all HT really to ride when I don't need the big travel full suss

Yes I guess a 29er would be best, really miss my old 456 with 140mm revs perhaps I should just get one of those again??
