Feel like treating myself so what new mat should I get?
I would like, in no particular order:
* Small pack size
* Warm
* Light
* Durable
* No balloons

I've been using Exped mats for the last couple of years. They'll produce a mat to suit whatever conditions you're trying to sleep on / in.
The Synmat UL fits all your criteria. The small is nearly as long as most companies full length offerings (at 5'7" I don't need a longer mat). I've used the Synmat on a stone floor in winter with a quilt and not felt the ground.
If you want something warmer then the downmats take some beating. A good compromise between cost, weight and warmth is the downmat lite. R value of 4.1 / rated to -12 and costs £70 for the small size:

The downmat looks like a good mix of weight / warmth / comfort / cost.
£70 for m inc postage from OutdoorGB. Think I might push the button on one of those :)
I'm 5'11", is the medium the right size for me?

It'll be fine. If you don't mind your feet overhanging then a S would suffice and save a little weight.

Thanks for the help. Think I'll go for one of those then.

I've got a medium down mat and I'm 6'.
Nothing hangs off except my bingo wings and belly.

I've got a Multimat Superlite which has been comfortable and warm. Used it in the WRT where it went down to minus 2 during the night. I got mine for £35 i think. It's only 300g with a tiny pack size.

I'm surprised you were warm enough, it's got an R value of bugger all (no insulation just air). Karrimor do the same mat cheap if anyone fancies a whirl*:

*Just ignore the bit where they say it's suitable to -15
