need a new set of tyres after a pair of far too lightweight and narrow continentals gave up the ghost.
so looking online everywhere, and the biggest and fattest, and actually suitable for my weight (according to the website) are schwalbe big apples.
i know they are good, but is there anything else worth a shot ?

Vittoria Terrenos are good and come in a few widths

Not sure you can still get them, but Vittoria Voyager Hyper are great.

WTB Byways have impressed me, just done 18 months with them in road/gravel and had two punctures (with tubes) in all that time

Was impressed with the speed and comfort. Had the 650B version but see it comes in a 700cc flavour if that’s what you need.

Schwalbe's G-One Allround comes in a sturdy version, but was hard to get (only 9 months wait). Version is DD, Raceguard, Black-Reflex.

Never ridden them, but seem sturdy (sidewall) in hand.

For everyday and long term touring use on or light off road they seem ideal.

I quite like most of Vittorias offerings, but the sidewalls wear as one would expect with them being rather light.

Big Big Apples purchased. good for 150kgs.................

From what I've been led to believe Geax/Vittoria Booze Light are excellent for this, they're dirt/street tyres but at about 680g they're great for actual riding. Some stock still exists on ebay and olsenbikes.co.uk, you can get them cheaper in goppin' colours too.

Obviously not as sturdy as a Big Apple but still more than capable of taking abuse given their intended use, I have a pair I'm keeping just for this reason, they roll amazingly well.

Not sure if they are too big but I am running Surly Extra-terrestrials 27.5x2.5 tyres on my Bridge Club, apart from thick mud they are pretty good
