Wingnuts hydra- how do you pack yours?!

Post by welshwhit »

Evening all!

With my work duty money treated myself to a very nice Hydra 2.5 and I'm very impressed!

I was keen to try one after seeing yetimans on the WRT

Now I'm keen to get out and try it and. Have already filled and unfilled it several times, it does seem to just swallow kit!

So how do folk fill there's/what with/ and do you use a system to organise bits?

I only really use mine for guiding duties rather than trips.

One side pocket for tools, spares and pump.

Other side pocket for my emergency dry bag which has stuff like first aid kit, spare gloves, knife, tow rope, compass, gps, etc.

Main bit for butties ;)

I also have a little wingnut pouch that goes on the main waist strap that I keep my camera in.

Generally just stuff in it in, as i run out of gear before its full. Got all of this in once and still had room to squeeze a few Starbars in there

On thing to consider is how you wear it.

May sound daft, but you need to think of it like a big bumbag rather than a traditional backpack. Fasten up the waist strap as much as you can and then have the shoulder straps as loose as they'll go. If you do it the other way around you'll wonder what we've all been fussing about.

Cheers chaps, sounds good that

Is that a 2 l bladder? Certainly seems to take a lot of kit!

Has anyone tried one of the horizontal bladders in one? Looked at the inov8 ones but might just use mine shoved inl

You'll find that the bladder pocket is a big square mirroring the main compartment, rather than one that goes across the whole of the bag.

2l Camelbak ones work well, but dont think the inov8 horizontal one would fit unless you fold it.

Hydapak used tp make a 1.5l bladder that was almost made for the job but I don't think they're available anymore.

I gave up looking for a Hydra pak after my last one sprung a leak and got a 2L camelback antidote which is actually a betterer fit.

Is there anywhere in the UK that sell these? Had a look online but could not find anything.

Cheers.
