Recommend Some MTB Shoes

I went travelling last year, and when I returned, my parent's dogs had eaten my MTB shoes.
I have tried persisting with flat pedals, but I find myself constantly wriggling my feet to find an optimum pedalling position.
Can anyone recommend some MTB shoes? I don't want to break the bank, so a bargain pair would be preferable.
Note - I will be using these for multi-day trips through the Moors, Lakes, and Dales so a pair that can cope with the occasional stretch of walking is what I am looking for.

Everyone's feet are different, so what's comfy for one - blah dee blah.
I personally find spesh comfortable, but I don't think they last well.
Shimano seem to fit almost as well, but are lasting a lot lot better.
Speaking in generalarities (is that a word?).

I've recently bought some Shimano M088's. I'm very happy with them so far...they're much more secure on my feet than the boots I'd been wearing, the soles have plenty of grip and aren't too stiff either. Obviously I can't comment on their durability yet.
They can be bought for less than £60 from Wiggle if you use the £5 newsletter trick. Merlin sell them for a similar price, but you can't return them for free if they don't fit from there.

What about these Shimano SH-MT23 's?

They're less than £35, look comfy... I've never had lace up bike shoes though. Any thoughts?

Would say that 'High ventilation material' means they will offer little resistance to water and be pretty cold on all but a nice hot day.
