went out on my usual Wednesday evening social ride last week, I was riding down a road and an old lady pulled out from a side road without stopping straight into me knocking me off my bike onto the other side of the road. One hard landing on the tarmac on the base of my spine and 6 days on I'm still in a lot of pain and off work. Doctors just say its very heavy bruising to the coccyx and sacroilics (spelling?) and that I won't be able to ride until it I feel able to. Not sure how long that'll be. I've since been back to the junction and feel so angry because it is so open the visibility of oncoming traffic is 100% for her. :(

I've never agreed with the culture of "whiplash/where there's blame there's a claim" but I'm at a loss for loads of things:- loss of income, public transport while I can't commute once U'm back, I missed a Velodrome session that was a Fathers Day present on Sunday evening, I'm in training for a couple of bike events I've paid for (TwentyFour12 etc.) not to mention my social riding plus a few planned bivi's as well as Stu's weekend in a couple of weeks. You got any insurance? British Cycling helped sort me out.

Don't mess around phone solicitor instead of watching videos, my GF was hit by old woman, broken arm and skinned back, police had her licence and insurance paid out. What if you never feel right to ride again lower back is a crap injury for cyclist. At least she stopped, I got hit twice hit n run last year :x

Echo what others have said. Insurance is there for a reason. Don't suffer for the sake of it. You shouldn't be out of pocket for somthing that isn't your fault. Contact her insurers and advise them of your circumstances. If you don't have access to a solicitor or your own insurance, this will be the quickest and most cost-effective way for them to settle.

Now in the hands of CTC solicitors.

Did a bit of thinking and now taking everything into consideration I don't have an issue with making a claim.

I hope you are ok, can you walk or hike to get some bivis in, I am up for a hike bivi if you can? I have been meaning to go back to duyln bothy on foot for a while.

Sorry to hear about your incident. I was hit from the side on a fast roundabout a few years ago and knew the girl who knocked me down. We came to an 'amicable' decision at the time regarding replacement of the bike and I heard after that she was moaning about the cost (having not wanted to put it through her insurers at the time), despite having nearly killed me. I was like you, and have an issue with the claim culture thing, but I wished after hearing what I heard I'd gone for the full claim for injury etc. etc.
Two near misses today with old gimmers pulling out - I'll follow up on the CTC thing... thanks for the prompt.
