The edge explorer 2, has just been released - looks to have much better battery life.

I had nothing but trouble with the edge explore 1, to the point that Garmin ended up swapping it with an edge 830 FOC.

The Edge Explore is available "renewed" on Amazon. The price fluctuates between £140 and £165. They are as new and come in Garmin boxes with all the accessories, etc. Compared to the cost of a new one with better battery life you could probably just buy a second unit.

I've lost count of the number of times I've said that the Explore with the 5 pin back plate to connect with their Charge battery pack would be the perfect unit for long distance, multi day rides where continually searching around for mains sockets in cafeteria aren't an option. Imagine my unbridled joy at seeing the Explore 2 launched a couple of days ago only to have them dashed by discovering that the standard model doesn't feature the 5 pin connector, you have to buy the version bundled with the mount that they're marketing for use with e bikes which costs another £150 so the total outlay is nearly as much as a discounted 1030. They really are experts at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!

By my reckoning, 37 but now 38 if we include the above.

Glad someone's keeping count. :-bd Wonder how many people will buy the standard version thinking it'll plug into their Charge and feel cheated. Probably more than 38

I didn't properly understand what you were getting at until I watched DCR's video as Dave linked below. That's a mental decision!

$50 for a USB cable added to $129 for a mount, there's taking the piss and then there's Garmin taking the piss. Well done DC Rainmaker for calling them out.
