Morning folks,

We've been making some big life decisions recently and the main one is that we're selling up and moving away from the Ardeche!

But.....this is not as terrible as it might first appear as we're going to give Chamonix a go for a year or so and then maybe settle there if we like it (I already know it's great for holidays but living there?).

Not that this is of any interest or even vaguely relevant to you all but it does mean that I've managed to secure provisional permission to get myself a fatbike for those long winter months (and nicely groomed walking trails) that the Alps has to offer.

So.....I've got a few choices given my strictly limited budget:

1. My original plan was that I'd get one of the On-one fatties as it's the cheapest complete fatbike I've seen and, like Ronseal, should do what it says on the tin (though, I imagine, without much finesse).

2. Paul78 is selling a (Large) Salsa 'Mukluk 3' over in the classifieds and for the money it seems a lot more bike than the On-one.

3. Wait and look for something else 2nd hand (though what?).

What do you think?

What would you go for?

Am I overlooking any obvious other options?

Anyone got one (of either of the above) and care to let me know your recommendations?

By buying that Mukluk you'd stop me from buying it and my wife would be very grateful.

Having seen Pauls Mukluk I can vouch for it being very nice. I'm sure the On Ones are okay too but I imagine there'd be things that you'd be thinking about changing quite quickly.

The On Ones look to be a good deal but I've seen too many folk report issues with them, particularly the crap brakes and the need for more gears to make best use of the fatbikes abilities. Factor that into the mix, look at the overall weights, and it's hard to see past a Mukluk.
