I'm on the look out for a new windproof top. Ideally it wants to be light, pack small and obviously be windproof, any dwr would be a bonus as would a smock style rather than a jacket.

At present the following two are in contention:

Rab Boreas Pull-On - Cheap(ish), looks quite warm, has a hood but not 100% windproof but stretchy fabric, 210g.

Rab Cirrus Pull-On - Little bit more expensive, no hood, 100% windproof and 90g but maybe a little more fragile.

There's quite a few different wind shirts out there, so what's good, what's not and has anyone tried either of the above?

Howies Dyfi active shell is very nice. £40, stretchy arm and side panels, chest pocket and a fleecy collar. 215 grams, apparently. No hood, a jacket only and the nice orange has sold out.

Montane Featherlite is probably the default, tho expensive now.

Great top, wind proof and packs very small...

I've used a cirrus for a couple of years, lots of mtbing and fell running. It's a great piece of kit, light, windproof, much more hardwearing than it looks. The fit is better for me than Montane stuff - longer in the arms and slimmer in the body. Zip is long enough that you can put it on without taking your lid off.

Evangelical buffalo user! My windshirt is over 20 years old and still going strong. It has hood attached which I don't think they do now. 225g. It has indestructible opti zips. Zips open at sides so you can vent without it flapping. Skinny fit and long back, capacious chest pocket. Design classic, old skool but I don.t care.

new on ebay but again im just looking.

I have looked at the Sonic. I do like OMM kit but I can get either RAB for quite a few quid less. I reckon the Sonic would compare well to the Cirrus although the Sonic's stated weight is lower.

Something else I've spotted is the Montane Trail Star. It doesn't really do it for me as it's a jacket (and I find Montane stuff doesn't always fit me, my fault not theirs) but it looks pretty good for less than £50.

Seems pretty good value, its getting its first outing tonight so can't comment to much on performance, but first impressions are pretty good.

It misses all of your criteria probably but I'd like to put a good word in for my Karrimor Elite Shield Softshell. At £40 it's windproof, light rain beads nicely on it and it ventilates well, I wore it over a base layer all last weekend and didn't get all hot and bothered. Also available with matching trousers if that's of interest to anyone.

I've got a Montane Singletrack that does the job. Gets a bit sweaty but packs small and shrugs off a fair bit of rain.

How about the Paramo Fuera smock?

I've got a Paramo and it's very good but it is fairly heavy and a little bulky when packed ... tend to use it as a winter riding top.

I bought a Rab Cirrus on a whim in the sale which seemed good but I took it back as I decided it wasn't necessary.

I have a montane wind proof jobby which I use commuting but I wouldn't bother with that on a trip, I now take a montane velo h20 which is totally waterproof but only marginally less breathable, so I'd go for one of them. £45 or so in the sale from memory.

After much deliberation and nobbing about, I've bought an OMM Sonic smock ... I imagine I wouldn't have done if I hadn't spotted them for £27.50 at Wiggle. Seems to fit the bill - smock rather than jacket, light at 80g, windproof with a DWR treatment.
