Just got a Topeak Hexus recently and am impressed. The chain tool is the same as on the Alien, but the Hexus ditches all the ring spanners I'd never use. It seems well made and also well thought out.

For general trail use I spent ages finding one that had only the stuff I needed without surplus tools. Crank Bros 17 for an all in one, lovely quality and good weight and I know I can rely on it.

Avoid Birzman if you actually plan on using it over admiring/weighing it. Most disappointing piece of junk I have had from bike industry in long long time. Appear fantastic until you actually need to put any torque through it.

For bikepacking though I'll often strip my tools down to a selection of the bare minimum.

Admittedly, these are available to the masses yet, but I think my Fix It Sticks are just about to displace all my other trail multitools. 50g and delivers as much leverage as I can get from my workshop tools (which for undoing singlespeed wheel bolts is quite handy).



Pair with a chain splitter (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=14427) and you've got everything you need that is fully functional.
