27.5 plus? Where are you?

I’m preparing for when we are eventually allowed to play out and both myself and my wife’s bike require new tyres. After a cursory root about I’m suprised by the lack of availability of the 27.5, 2.8 to 3.0 size. For me it’s a perfect combination of cushioning and control, are they being phased out?
Also any recommendations for a good all round plus tyre that I can actually buy?
Cheers

I'm still riding 3" Nobby Nics, though I have a pair of 2.8" XR4s to go on when they've worn. I've used the XR4s in 2.4" size and reckon they're the best mixed (my) conditions tyre I've had

I'm using Specialized 3" tyres - Purgatory (tyre name, not experience). Moved to these from Nobby Nic/R Ron. They're bigger volume and tougher re: rocks. Fairly cheap too. A bit lardy, but that's not really the point.

Nobby Nic on the front, Rekon on the back is a very good combo for grip/rolling.
Got Minion DHF front, N Nic rear on my FS atm and that's also quality, albeit for a very different application.

Since Continental has updated the casings a couple of years ago, apparently making it more sturdy, the X-King could be a good option. I used to like the Protection version, which comes with the black chili compound, much (good grip - especially in the wet - and low rolling resistance), yet their sidewalls never lasted long so I gave up. But that was before they changed things a bit.
Comes in 27.5 x 2.6 and 2.8.
I've one bike with 27.5 × 2.8" rear and have been on Magic Mary from the beginning, since they suit the stuff I ride with it best, but have been thinking about a faster rolling tyre for some less aggro riding. I should give the wide 27.5 X-King a try myself...

Nobby Nics 2.6 front and rear for me.
Only 1 puncture last year - repairable in 5 mins with a Stans Dart. - Amazing considering that included 3 x Lakeland 300's, 2 x Peak 200's, Dales 300, Cairngorms Loop 300, a BB200 and a North Peaks 100.

Rekon + is probably my fave 650b+ tyre I’ve ridden. They roll good and grip well, used to swap the rear to Ikon+ in the summer when I had a b+ Wheelset.
For off road duties I only have 26 Fat and 29+ bikes/wheelsets now though.

You did the Lakeland 300 three times? Were you training for something, or a local maybe?

1 the weekend before the first lockdown and 2 after. The first 2 were cut a bit short so only the 3rd was fully completed.

Thanks for the offer. How used is used? I’ve got a set of Bontys which will take a front/rear swap but if yours are not fukced I’m interested.
