Avid elixir brake noise/new pads

I'm getting a fair bit of brake noise from my Elixir 5's, running sintered pads at present. They are bedded in and have always been a bit noisy!

What can I do to reduce this ?

What replacement pads would folk recommend?

Thanks

I've heard a very thin smear of grease on the back of the pad can help. I have an avid elixir r on the front which is sometimes noisy and sometimes not.

I suspect grease would be a bad idea. Copper slip might be better.

Ebc red compound brake pads are cheep and work brilliantly. Designed as a DH compound but pad life is good. I'm running them on deore, elixir and hope tech x2 brakes currently. They transformed the hopes. They're a work of Northern art but the performance with the stock pads is poor to say the least.

I've been using pads from here for past 2 years and have been great, cheap too

A thin smear of copaslip may help but it depends what's actually producing the noise. If it's the the pad vibrating then copaslip will do some good. If it's the pad against the disc then it won't. Sintered pads are very hard and have a high metalic content ... you're pretty much running metal on metal. Damp conditions tends to make them louder, a change of pads may be your only option. I use the basic Superstar pads, they're quiet, last okay and I'm not dead yet unlike all those people who complain about them across the internet ;)

Thanks for all the replies,

the noise only happens when the brakes are applied and around the Berwyns, they are pretty much always wet!

I recon I'll try some different pads and see how I go, figure I'll try the semi-metalic pads.

Cheers
